Strength from within,
By FRANK KEITH JACKSON (Chicago, Illinois USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Intaglio: A Novel in Six Stories (Paperback)
Intaglio captures the idea of family, togetherness and forgivness, stressing it from beginning to the end. Commendable, as Intaglio shows support among a family, which is a plus that should be stressed more often. The women of this story depend upon one another for support, and travel through life with each other by there sides. The aspiration, the positivity and talents that the characters in Intaglio brings out a sense of admiration to the reader, which encourages reaching for the stars without being held down, whether it be dancing, dress making etc. Intaglio is likeable for it's ideas and the interpreted message. The book as a whole is a good, but somewhat slow read, as many events must take place before any exciting events awaken the mind of the reader. The focus is on many young women, and how they interact in each other's lives. Adult readers may find Intaglio a little elementary, because of the way that the characters are presented, as angels or all good children, or fairy tale type of story. Intaglio is sure to entertain and warm your heart.

I personally did not enjoy this book at all.. It was way too scrambled for me. They start you off with stories of different women, throwing in names and events every other word. I had an extremely hard time trying to keep up with what the heck was going on the entire time. I read it because it was an assignment for class.. But I do feel like I wasted time trying to understand it. In my opinion, of course.

Since I have studied with the author, I could be a bit prejudiced, but I was pleasantly surprised by this book. It is poetic and hypnotic and a beautiful reflection on the community of women.
