3.0 out of 5 stars Intec GC Monitor: Good portibility, average functionality
I have read reviewers comparing the Intec GC Monitor, raving of how much better it is than the Interact one. While I believe this is true claiming one product is better than the other, doesn't mean it's necessary a good product. Read into what I've just said and make sure you understand my point. Now onto technical aspects of review.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Intec Black Game Screen for GameCube (Video Game)
Ok, I have spent countless days researching which is the best portable screen for the Gamecube. I have read just about every review available online and that is why I'm writing this review to sum it all up. From what I've heard, the Joytech 5.6" is the best on the market, however that is only available in European PAL format making Intec the best option for those living in the states. Now it gets more complicated. Thanks to other reviews I read about this product on Amazon.com, I found out that there are multiple versions of this product. After ordering it online and instead being shipped a Mobile Monitor (from what I hear, that monitor is not worth the money), I bought an Intec 5" model at a local Gamestop store. First of all, the box has false advertising. It said it had separate brightness/color control when it only had brightness, and one headphone plug (don't be fooled by the product image on the box!). Note: The 5" model and 5.4" are the same to my knowledge. Needless to say, I returned this 5" model (it does not use TFT technology, meaning the screen display won't look right from the side). Then I finally got the fabled 5.6" version! I had called a store and they told me they only make a 5.4" version, and if you go to Intec's website, the 5.6" is nowhere to be found! Well, like one other reviewer said, the 5.6" was definitely worth the extra hassle in getting it. It has two headphone jacks btw (one on each side). The picture quality is superb (had it been RGB instead of Composite video, it would be as good as the Joytech, but because of this, there is occasional color bleeding) and it's build is better/sturdier than it's 5.4" counterpart. I found the 5.6" at Toys 'R Us, oh and yea, do not order it online! Go to a store and buy it (make sure it says 5.6" on the box), else you'll end up getting the wrong model or worse (Mobile Monitor!)! Oh and as an interesting tidbit, it can only power the GC and itself in the car just in case if you thought you could use it with Xbox in the car without buying extra connections (unless I'm horribly mistaken).

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING, April 1, 2002

I was very fortunate to be able to obtain the Black Intec Monitor and am very very impressed with the product. THe screen snaps on nicely to the back of the Gamecube, allowing the handle to still be fairly usuable. The screen does not make the Gamecube back heavy what so ever. The construction (hinge, etc.) is very strudy. The screen produces a crisp colorful image that is just as easily viewable in the daylight as it is in the dark. The screen includes an A/V adaptor to connect a x-box, ps2, dvd player, etc. The screen can be disconnected from the Gamecube and then you can flib the hinge around to create a "individual stand" that will hold the screen up for use with other inputs. The sound from the two speakers is not going to knock you off your feet, but yet good enough not to take away from any game. the screen is crisp enough to read most text. In my van, the screen produces a slight buzzing sound, but in my saturn it doesnt. not sure why, but either way the screen is still amazing on the road or at home. Havent played on a full-size tv since i got the monitor. GREAT BUY!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, July 7, 2002

This review is from: Intec Black Game Screen for GameCube (Video Game)
I was getting ready to go on a trip to Hawaii and realized that I would be really bored in the car and in the plane unless I had something to do. So, I purchased the Intec, Inc. game screen in black to use on the long trip. I was amazed by the fact that the airplane (American Airlines) had plugs that allowed the gamecube to work on the plane with the car adapter cable that came with the screen! Overall the product is very versatile and can be used almost anywhere. Here is an explaination of why I rated this product with 4 stars:

Clarity-4/5-The clarity of the screen is pretty good for a 5 inch monitor, but I did find that on 2 player split screen games like SSX Tricky, it was impossible to see anything.

Versatility-5/5-I have found that this product can be used anywhere, and I am not kidding. If there is any type of plug available, it works!

Sound-4/5-The sound is better with headphones because it tends to get "fuzzy" when turned up.(CAUTION!!!Don't put the headphones on before plugging them in and turning on the screen, because it makes this terribly loud clicking sound in your ears!)

Backlight-5/5-The backlight in this product is highly superior to that of the InterAct. The screen is clearly visible in total darkness.

Overall, this is a great product with very few flaws. If you travel, and need something to keep you occupied when there is nothing else to do, this is by far the product for you!

3.0 out of 5 stars Intec GC Monitor: Good portibility, average functionality, May 6, 2003

I have read reviewers comparing the Intec GC Monitor, raving of how much better it is than the Interact one. While I believe this is true claiming one product is better than the other, doesn't mean it's necessary a good product. Read into what I've just said and make sure you understand my point. Now onto technical aspects of review.

I bought the 5.6" Intect GC Monitor about a month ago. Am I a happy customer? Not really. Note: I had to return the first unit to make sure that it wasn't a defect, but it turns out that's is just how the product is - at least for the two units I have touched.

Here's a breakdown of the categories.

Picture-Quality: Average
Reasons: Picture is off-centered. Mine the viewable game playing screen is shifted all the way to the left side, and there's no way I can adjust it. I returned for another one and they are both the same. It would be nice if the viewing screen is centered but I can live with it off-centered. As for the picture quality itself, it's what one can expect from a small LCD display -... Control wheels for brightness and color are available as expected. Lastly, the unit I bought had advertised a 5.6" screen size but viewable is less.

Sound-Quality: Poor
Reasons: Constant, annoying hissing noise in the background. There are two speakers and they do a decent job. A control wheel to turn them up quite loud, and it's a good thing to drown out the background hissing. Still, to me, there's just no excuse of having any other sounds other than the ones in the game.

Portability: Good
Reasons: Good portable gaming for long trip in car and stay at motel. Required only one connection for car DC adaptor, and another for AC outlet. Fitly and sturdily connected to Gamecube console. Small and light weight.

Overall: Average
Comments: ... In summary, if you are a desperate gamer or are shopping for one, think about other options. ... To me, packing a separate 15-25 lbs small size TV to a relative's home is worth the better gaming experience. ... But if you'd rather not deal with having a smaller TV and are serious only about GC gaming on the roads, than give the Intec GC monitor a try. ...

3.0 out of 5 stars Alright, but make sure to get the 5.6" instead, November 20, 2003

Another reviewer has already said something similar to this, but I felt like reinforcing it. There ARE two models, and this one does happen to be the much worse one. Really, it's ok, but it has bad ghosting problems, brightness, the volume control is imprecise, and there is only one headphone jack. Also, it's not TFT either, which doesn't really matter much unless two people are playing on it at once. Now keep in mind this is the 5" model, or mobile monitor, which is sold almost nowhere. There is, however, a 5.6" model which is MUCH better, because it has simply a better LCD that has no ghosting problems, is TFT (meaning you can view it easily from wide angels), has two headphone jacks, a brightness and a color control, and a more precise volume knob. My only gripe about the 5.6" model is a slight buzzing sound in the background, but it shouldn't present any problems. Overall though, the 5.6" model is very good, and even comes with a car adapter. Just make sure that the box says 5.6" on it, otherwise, do not buy it. I got mine at Toys R Us, if that makes it any easier.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT MONITOR, January 27, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Intec Black Game Screen for GameCube (Video Game)
i was looking at the intec and interact moniters, and saw that one was LCD TFT and one was backlit and wanted to know what the difference was so i looked up what a TFT monitor is like and the difference is that Backlit ones can be seen better in the dark and TFT ones have a faster viewing time aka... its not blurry. If ya remember the old lap top screens they were sort of blurry like as in when ya moved the mouse it could still be seen in its previous location, but in the new TFT screens the pixels change color faster so it is not as blurry. also this one has 2 headphone jacks and the interact one only has 1. I am most likely gunna get one when the come back in stock (cause i would rather have a faster image than a backlit screen and don't care about the extra .4 in)
...hope this was helpful

5.0 out of 5 stars Intec ROCKS!!!..., September 2, 2002

Recently Intec has sent me a free screen! I was thinking it was going to be Broken or mest up when I got it, NO WAY The screen had a crisp clean picture. And when going on a road trip using the THREE! controls their was no glare. The only problem I had was the sound which had a buzz, and also about the 2 week I got it I turened it on and their were lines going through it. So I turned it off and on again and Ive nener had the problem since then. Nothing to worry about WHEN GETTING THE SCREEN! You can even use your car adapter to power your gamecube on ameracan airlines. So many uses one little screen. PS one word of advice DONT GET INTERACT!!!...Chances are its going to be broken right out of the box. Plus the interact screen is to BIG. Then the sound sucks on top of that. SO I hope I convenced you GET THE INTEC SCREEN NOW!!!...

This is a great product to have if you are going on a trip. It comes with a car adapter so all you have to do is plug it in to the cigarette lighter and Start playing. This product is also good just in case you only have one TV in your house and someone eles is on it. Be careful of using this product with older model cars. I tried to run it on an 87 oldsmobile and I blew a fuse out in the car. But other than that the monitor is very clear and hooks up to the back of the G-Cube with no problem. Its even Better than My TV

5.0 out of 5 stars WOW, a knockout punch!, June 24, 2002
This review is from: Intec Black Game Screen for GameCube (Video Game)
When I saw this on Amazon, and all the great reviews it had gotten, I knew it would be perfect for the road. ... Now, since this item has come out, Intec decided to modernize it and change some of the features. They changed 2 headphone jacks on one side to a jack on each side. They also made the monitor rectangular instead of rounded. The last change was adding a color button, which is a really great feature. The color can make it the color go to black and white, which is surprisingly still amazing.
Now for the tests. It was fairly easy to connect it to the gamecube, snapping it into the handle and connecting it. Unlike the very disappointing Interact Model, this one uses the Gamecube Adapter for a power source. First off I tested Super Smash Bros Melee, and it faired very well. This is probabl where the only problem I encountered the entire time occurred- The players were sort of small, a minor flaw, but it was hard to tell who was who. On games like NBA 2k2, Madden NFL 2002, and Super Monkey Ball, the picture was stunning. It was even more impressive than... my 2 year old TV. On darker games like NBA Street it still excelled VERY well. The only OTHER minor flaw was on Rogue Leader. On some of the dark stages it's a little hard to see all the detail, but it's still very enjoyable. It also connected to all systems, DVD, and VCR but XBOX, and did greatly. By the way, NO, the lines should not be on there (for that other person).

Anyway, If you want a great deal and want to end boredom in the car, get this monitor, and you WON'T be disappointed. THANKS 4 READING!

This is a small screen that is portable, well, you should know that by looking at it. The sound quality is great, the picture can be adjusted in brightness and color! Meaning you can view your games in full color or make it old-school movie like in "B&W" mode! You can make it look crisp, dusty or old! Your call! You can spruce it up with a friend with 2 plugs for headphones! There's also a plug for other systems (Don't know how), video camera, etc. It also goes into the car! You can use it inside the car or inside a hotel room!
