5.0 out of 5 stars it's a cable!!!!!

Component video cables for the PS2 are supposed to be hooked up to TVs that have Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr connections. Many newer TVs (like the ones I have) have Y Pb Pr connections. They LOOK the same. The manuals say that they're for component video. But there is one crucial difference. The Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr PS2 video output doesn't work in a Y Pb Pr TV! They mention this in the fine print of the PS2 manual but, as I found to my sorrow, it's easy to overlook.

Before you buy this (or any other) component video cable to hook your PS2 up with your HDTV check the connections on the HDTV. If it's Y Pb Pr it probably won't work.

Just to be clear, I DID change the video output of the PS2 from RGB to Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr before connecting the cable to the TV. Did not work (on two different HDTVs that have Y Pb Pr connections)

The cable itself doesn't deserve a "1" rating. I'm almost sure that if you have a HDTV with Y Cb/Pb Cr/Pr connections you'll love this cable. I just wish I could test it myself...

If you can't use component cables, S-Video works pretty well. You're much better off with S-Video than composite!

When I bought my new LCD TV it only had 1 S-Video slot, which went to my GameCube because Nintendo deemed it necessary to discontinue making systems with Component ports. In order to play whatever games I want without constant plugging / unplugging, I decided it was time to get a PS2 component cable.

I stumbled across this one and found it to be the cheapest option, and since it's just a cable I purchased it.

Overall I have been satisfied with its performance and have experienced no problems with it whatsoever. If you're in my situation where you're buying a PS2 component cable out of necessity, look no further as this is by far the cheapest option you'll find.

To the people experiencing problems, check your PS2 system settings to see that you switched your PS2 video options from RGB to Y/Cb/Cr.

3.0 out of 5 stars Issues with PS1 games played through PS2, November 13, 2009

This review is from: Intec Component AV Cable PS2 (Video Game)
This cable works great when playing actual PS2 games on my PS2. With my new HDtv, I put in FFX and was horrified by how bad it looked going through the normal composite cables that come with the PS2. But with these, it looks, downright beautiful. Gone are the scan lines and the muddied colors stretched to fit, and i am very happy with the results.

But the PS2 is backwards compatible, and i enjoy a lot of PS1 games still, sadly, with this cable connected I can't get past the menus of any PS1 game. I've gone through and tried every combination of settings I could find but they all just stop after the initial Sony of America etc. screens. So keep that in mind if you intend to play a lot of PS1 games, because as it stands my PS2 Slim is now a PS2 only machine.

I bought these cables in order to connect my old PS2 to my new LCD TV. The original cable from the PS2 worked but the video quality was really poor. These cables allowed me to connect the PS2 to the Component input on my LCD and to set the PS2 video output to 480p. The difference in quaity of video is exceptional. I decided to try them as they are cheap and I did not expect them to make a great difference but they did! Great buy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Games look cleaner and sharper. It does its job. No difference between Y, Pr, Pb and Y, Cr, Cb!, March 12, 2010

I have an original(fat) PS2 console and a LCD flat screen TV. My TV has Y, Pr, & Pb inputs and these component cables work just fine (if you don't know what I'm talking about, refer to your TV's user manual). You're not going to get XBOX360/PS3 HDMI quality, because PS2 does not support true HD (except for Grand Turismo 4, which can be played on 1080i). 1080i is true HD. Games played through regular RCA cables on HD TVs look blurry and crappy. These cables will clean up the color quality(which results in the game looking better). If you're having trouble with these cables, check your PS2's system settings. There's a reviewer here who explains how to do that.

Note: I've done some homework on the Y, Pr, Pb inputs vs. Y, Cr, Cb inputs issue. As far as consumer level products go, there is NO difference between Y, Pr(red), Pb(blue) inputs and Y, Cr(red), Cb(blue) inputs. Also, component cables are better than S-VIDEO.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works as promised - better video, June 11, 2008

This review is from: Intec Component AV Cable PS2 (Video Game)
This cable lets you pipe higher quality video from your PS2 console to any TV with component-in capability (3 separate signals for 3 primary color components). Not only does the picture quality improve quite a bit, but it lets you turn on progressive scan which is not supported by the composite video (only one signal for the picture) which the standard, out-of-the-box PS2 cable comes with. Arrived quickly and works flawlessly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cheap cable, August 20, 2007

1st cable was 100% defective, seller replaced it for free. Second cable works fine but is not shielded heavily. Power cables will cause interference if running along side the component cable for any length.

Works better than expected at $4 compared to $40 for monster cable.

Purchased these cables despite the negative reviews saying that they will not work on newer televisions. I just have to say that I have a 42" Panasonic Veira LED with a modded PS2 (HDD added) and these cables are shockingly better than the regular RGB cables. So, they definitely do not have problems with all new televisions since mine is well under 2 years old, a newer technology being an LED television, and they work very well.

All I did was set the PS2 to component settings in the setup, then plugged the cables in and everything worked perfectly. I was actually surprised how much better things looked. I tested it out on Bully since that game is one of the worst looking on my television. Now the graphics are crisp and clear, well as clear as they can be on a 10 year old console.

Moral of the story, $5 is worth the risk. If they don't work then bummer, you're out $5 if you decide not to return them and it goes back to the way it was before you tried the cables.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes a noticeable difference, May 10, 2011

This review is from: Intec Component AV Cable PS2 (Video Game)
First, I have a newer model Proscan LCD flatscreen and I believe the component inputs are of the type that are not supposed to work with this cable. But as others have noted, they DO work. At first I thought that this would not work because I was getting a staticy, intermittent signal. I notified the seller, who sent a replacement cable, which works fine. I did have to raise the PS2 off the top of our VCR (yes, we still have one) because there was some interference that was causing the picture some issues. I just put a couple of small wooden blocks under the Ps2 and now it's fine.

So, do these cables make a difference? Yes, and it's worth the minimal investment to me. If you don't tend to notice such things, then it might not be worth it to you, but text and subtle details are smoother and more defined. To my eye it's a substantial improvement, but "substantial" only because I was never pleased with the way the Ps2 looked on the flatscreen. I'd noticed a similar improvement by hooking our Wii up with component cables, and so gave this a try, and I'm glad I did.

I followed the suggestions of others in these reviews: 1. changed output on the Ps2 to component from RGB, 2. turned off Ps2, 3. changed cable, 4. turned Ps2 back on and switched to appropriate input on the tv and voila - improved Ps2 visuals.

I also have to give kudos to the seller, who replaced my cable immediately without questions. That kind of customer service for such a low-cost product is hard to find.

I was searching around the web for an alternative method with my ps2 video, 1st I thought using the S-Video option however the improvement is minimum, then I tried this one, my tv: LCD, FullDH, 42inch. it works just excellent, you will notice the difference immediately. Very satisfied with its price & quality. 100% compatible. If you expect higher performance this is not your cable neither your game machine.
