4.0 out of 5 stars Double the memory for half the price, no disc needed

1.0 out of 5 stars Disc Swap Tricks to get more memory
This comes with such an annoying bootloader that you have to use before each and every game. There are a few games (such as Super Bust-a-move) that this doesn't even work with. It's a hack and it makes you swap discs each and every time you load a game.

Spend the extra bucks and buy a real memory card.

I've read the reviews posted here, there appears to be a conflict of facts. Some of the reviewers said their product came with a boot disc, while some did not.

The one I have did not come with a boot disc and it did not need the disc to operate. It is truly plug-and-play right out of the box. It is basically a memory card at double the normal capacity (at 16MB) with an expansion slot which allows you to plug your original memory card in there. A switch on the card allows you to switch between the 16MB expansion and the 8MB memory card. There are 2 LED indicators that lets you know whether it's the 16MB expansion or the 8MB memory card that can be accessed currently. This means you cannot access saved files on both memory cards at the same time, but at least you can access 16+8 = 24MB's worth of saved files via a single port without rebooting the system or physically replacing the cards. With 2 of these and 2 memory cards, you can have 48MB's worth of memory using only 2 memory card slots compared to the 16MBs you are limited to if you are only using the regular memory cards.

At $12.49, this is defiinitely a great value and a great alternative to a Sony brand memory card, which gives you half the amount of memory at double the price.

I buyed this item two weeks ago... I put many saves in it... Works very well! Works like a single memory card(don't need to swap, no CD is included anyway!!!)

But today my PS2 tell me that this 'memory card' is unformatted. Impossible to see my saves...

I choose 'Format It' and I see 'Format Failed'!!!

It's now impossible to save on it. And I lost all my saves! WOW!

(...)
DON'T BUY THAT ******!

My machine wouldnt recognize the card. Total waste of my money. I have the new slim PSTwo machine... I DO NOT recommend this to anyone. Do yourself a favor and just buy the regular memory cards.

I'm a hardcore gamer, I've got a ton of games with complete save files for all those games. I've had this memory card since when Devil May Cry 3 came out, if not longer. Well, what sucks is that I just turned on my PS2 to get some Tekken 5 practice when I realized it didn't load (meaning the memory card was entirely corrupted and that I lost ALL my saves files in the expansion card by Intec). Lucky all the games on the original PS2 memory card was still there, but damn, WTF. And it was when I tried to create a save file for Okami, which I doubt could have been responsible for the corruption. Okay, so this isn't the first time it's happened to me. I bought a memory card for my GameCube which was also by Intec before. It couldn't save Final Fantasy Chronicles. Damn, I thought having a whole 24 mb for my PS2 would save me some cash, but it's not worth losing all the saves. I know what I'm talking about here, so if you still want to go for this product, then go for it but don't say you haven't been warned. So angry.

1.0 out of 5 stars sucks, January 1, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Intec PlayStation 2 16MB Memory Expansion Card [video game] (Video Game)
this thing seems like a dream-i owned one for a year and it worked perfectly, with 16MB of memory on the expansion itself. it has an expansion bay to plug in your smaller 8MB memory card, and there is a button on top you use to toggle between the two. to clarify the confusion, THERE IS NO DISC NEEDED TO LOAD THIS MEMORY CARD OR TO PLAY WITH IT. i used it fine for a year until....one day i was saving my dynasty in March Madness 2004 and the expansion corrupted. it does this without warning, and all of the files on the card become corrupted, which means unable to save/load and unable to be deleted from the card. so it becomes totally worthless. this thing is really bad, and i lost thousands of saved files because of it. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS ONE BY INTEC, get the 16MB memory cards WITHOUT THE EXPANSION. consider yourselves warned..

I bought two of this and i think that this is a wonderfull solution to save a lot of games, it doesn't have a disc in order to work, i just only put my 8Mb memory card inside and it works great, the only problem that i see is that this expasion is slower than the original memory card and another thing that dislike to me is that the 24X that show in the cover are separate, it have a button that swap the Expansion and the original memory card, a thing that i like, is that it have a light that let you see when the console is accesing the memory card, it blinking when the PS2 is reading or writing to the expansion. I recomend this expansion, it is a must buy accesory for your PS2 console...
Note: It has no disc to work, it came with just the expansion and the instructions, no more else!.
