I'll admit, my shoes were a mess and the spikes were long overdue for replacing, but one of the bars that fits in the spikes broke off on the 4th use. You get what you pay for I guess...

Used on 4 pairs of shoes. Was able to break most of the spikes free, but had to use pliers on some and destroy the spike in the process. I'm not sure if it was because of embedded dirt causing increased friction or other reasons, but the tool was not able to keep a grip on the holes in these few spikes to break them free. Don't expect 100% effectiveness. I have not used any other type of tool to compare it to.
