The exercises are great except the answer key is not provided.
Only way to obtain the answer key is to contact Cheng & Tsui.
However, they won't give you the passcode unless you are affiliated with a learning institution.
They told me that they can't give me the answer key due to security reasons.
[How can anyone sell a workbook without providing an answer key???]

I originally got this book for my class at college. It is a great supplement to test what you learned in the textbook, but there is no answer key. I only got the key from my professor. I guess if they just gave out the key, then professors cant use this book as homework questions. Nonetheless, the exercises are more effective with a partner since theres some exercises that want you to speak and simulate a scenario with your partner. This is great for class use, but without a key self-study with this book proves to be difficult.

The textbook really great but the workbook is just soso! If you did'nt buy the CD and cannot listen to the dialogues, you won't be able to answer many of the questions ;-(

This is a very good text book. There are a lot of grammar examples and detailed explanation of the Chinese culture. A good book for adult learners.
The disadvantage of this book is the Pinyin in the dialogue. Since it's a good book for adults, the Pinyin prints are too small to read. It'll be much better if the Pinyin is a little bigger.

I'm taking Mandarin as a night class at a local community college.

I find this book to be amazing for a beginner, for several reasons:

A) The chapters are broken down into usable subjects, contexts, and vocabulary.
B) The format is fantastic -- very simple, pleasing to the eye, not cluttered. Large print.
C) Organized vocabulary lists at each chapter.
D) Specific sections on grammatical usage of particular particles, words, phrases.

Much much much better than most intro-language books I ever saw while in College.

The book is fast delivery, thank you. It is good same as stated. The book is a good text material.

This character workbook is as great as any character workbook can be. I used it for my first year Chinese class. Each character that you write comes with many lines for practice and it numbers the strokes so that you know in which order to write them. Very easy to follow and comes with an interesting intro which explains information about the meanings of the radicals. This book makes learning Chinese interesting.

Out of the six books I bought, this was the last one that I bought and paid for but it was the one to come in! Really fast shipping~

I would strongly discourage anyone from buying this book. The translations in the book are often very ambiguous and confusing. The book often presents new grammar without explaining it. For the grammar it does explain it gives very few example sentences. If you look at the authors they are all Chinese. Regardless of how well they may speak English many points are still lost in translation. When learning a language every small grammatical detail should be broken down and explained. This book will explain the main details but will leave you to figure the rest out on your own.
