Editorial Reviews

Review

"Beutler and Groth-Marnat present personality assessment just the way it should be taught, learned, and practiced--as an integration of diverse procedures into a multifaceted assessment battery, and as an integration of interview and test findings into cohesive and individualized reports that provide useful answers to referral questions, particularly with respect to treatment planning. Contributors provide an excellent overview of the conceptual and empirical foundations of integrative personality assessment, together with detailed guidelines for putting it into practice. What they have to say will advance the field of personality and be valued by psychologists at all levels of experience, from beginning students to senior professionals."--Irving B. Weiner, PhD, Department of Psychology, University of South Florida

"A key issue among mental health professionals today is the struggle to match rapid and efficient clinical assessment with targeted treatment intervention. Beutler, Groth-Marnat, and colleagues, in this volume, have once again made an essential contribution to guiding clinicians in this integrative task."--John F. Clarkin, PhD., Department of Psychiatry, Weill College of Medicine, Cornell University

"This excellent second edition integrates the complexities of valid psychological assessment with the needs and expectations of those who will use and pay for the reports. Each chapter is rich in research material and yet shows refreshing awareness of the realities of the marketplace. Relevant to all clinicians, the book emphasizes issues and variables that underlie a range of treatment modalities. Numerous case studies demonstrate how science-based data can be synthesized into an effective report and used to guide different types of interventions. Graduate students who master this information will have a distinct advantage in professional practice. Seasoned clinicians will discover that the text not only expands their knowledge, but also reflects the kind of assessment savvy that can only be acquired through extensive clinical experience."--Dean Given, PhD, past president, California Psychological Association
"This text provides a broad and practical framework for personality assessment, excellent guidelines for the practice of personality assessment across a range of settings and referral questions, and a wealth of information on aspects of the most commonly used measures and on the conduct of clinical interviews. Graduate students find it very accessible. I especially like the way the chapters tie together the scientific foundations and the clinical application of assessment methods."--John F. Curry, PhD, Professor and Director of Clinical Training, Department of Psychology and Neuroscience, Duke University
