5.0 out of 5 stars Integrative Nutrition a roadmap to healthy living January 31, 2014
Integrative Nutrition by Joshua Rosenthal is a must-have guide for healthy eating and healthy living. Written in an easy to digest style, the book addresses nutrition from a macro to a micro level; from the food industry and USDA food pyramid to specific diets and recipes.
The book shows the reader a holistic approach to nutrition that goes beyond just food, connecting a person's personal, professional and spiritual life to his or hers eating habits.
The phrase "we are what we eat" gets finally clarified in this book.
For those readers looking for an integrative nutrition plan, chapter 9 offers exactly that: a 12 step to health that is comprehensive and easy to follow.
My favorite chapter is the last one, titled "Why be healthy?" In the end, living a healthy lifestyle is a personal choice so knowing the answer to this questions is the key to succeeding in the path to a healthy lifestyle.

5.0 out of 5 stars Goes beyond food....thumbs up! February 15, 2014
Joshua Rosenthal has delved into an area of health that not many are talking about. Joshua has figured out that real nutrition goes beyond the food we eat. He addresses cultures & traditions along with what he has termed "primary foods."
Primary foods are those aspects of our lives that have primary importance in our everyday living that we dismiss as normal or don't give a second thought to as far as our health goes. Joshua's primary foods are career, relationship, exercise & spiritualty.
Whether we believe it or not, all these things affect our choices and in turn affect our health and ultimately our happiness.
I agree with the statement on the cover of the book...."Feed Your Hunger for Health & Happiness."
This book certainly does that and much more!

1.0 out of 5 stars Nice Try But Falls Short May 12, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition
I attended his Nutritional one year program in 2001-2002 and walked away with the same feeling. I am a Holistic Health Counselor after graduating, but I have had to do many years of research with 100% honorable and knowledgeable individuals and other truthfully holistic healing organizations to garner the knowledge and know-how that I currently have.

Has some positive points that are helpful, but also a lot of nebulous areas that even he is not clear on.

During the school year, I nearly got up and walked out several times. Had it not been for the high price tag I paid, I would have just withdrawn altogether and found something that was on-target with truth in holistic healing.

What he focused on was all these various "diets" that are ridiculous and many are downright fraudulent and dangerous. We were given many books but little clear, concise information. Most of the graduates were not able to help others because they did not have the RIGHT information taught to them.

He had us dance around the room singing the 1970's song "Oh, Candida" as his response to the very serious and eventually debilitating dis-ease that is known as "Candida" that, without properly clearing from in a holistic manner with the right herbs and Food Choices [he never bothered to discuss as he was so busy looking at all of the mis-information of the many diet books on the market with fake research] then people and animals WILL get everything from bloating/fog brain to Diabetes, Cancer, and other degenerative, life threatening dis-eases.

Again, he was great in some things, but outright misguided in so many, many areas that anything he writes or speaks of is just not accurate.

I was surprised at how basic this book was and would only reccommend it for people who are completely new to nutrition and wanting to eat healthly. There's also a number of topics I found out of place, such as relationships and sexuality, which despite what the author says, has nothing to do with nutrition. Its definately not 5 star material, which makes me wonder if all the other reviews on here are simply from members of the authors nutrition course.

The book is filled with what are called 'profiles', which are all from the wonderful results of people who have completed the authors quite expensive Integrative Nutrition Course, which makes me wonder if this book is simply an add for their training course, which is not accredited in any way which will lead to university / further education credits. I recommend googling 'integrative nutrition scam' and researching sites that come up. I am not implying it is a scam but will lead to better getting a balanced view of this book and the course they advertise through the book.

If you are new to nutrition and healthy eating I would recommend this book (providing you ignore all the adds for their training course) but if you have experience in the field give it a miss as there isn't really anything new here at all. Having said that its definately not worth their listing price of $23. I received it for the special of 99c and would not expect to pay anything more than $10 for it even if you are new to the field. There are better books out there for the price!
