Editorial Reviews

Review

From the reviews:

"This is a collaborative effort to address integrative pain medicine, involving authors from a variety of complementary and alternative medicine backgrounds. … is designed to be accessible for a wide audience, including healthcare consumers (patients) and providers (clinicians). … valuable addition to the bookshelf of any healthcare provider practicing in the field of pain management. … Pain management clinicians will likely find this book to be of particular value as they consider expanding their scope of services to include a broader array of CAM techniques." (Felise S. Zollman, Doody’s Review Service, July, 2008)

"Andrew Weil praises this book as the ‘definitive guide to integrative pain management.’ … Clearly, the subject is appealing. … This multiauthored volume covers most relevant topics, from basic pain concepts to legal issues. Its main emphasis is a broad outline of how alternative treatments like meditation, hypnotherapy, tai chi, yoga, osteopathy, chiropractic, massage, and herbal medicines might help individuals with pain." (JAMA, Vol. 300 (11), 2008)

From the Publisher

"Drs. Audette and Bailey have put together the definitive guide to integrative pain management, greatly extending the therapeutic options offered by conventional medicine. I heartily recommend this comprehensive and practical manual to both practitioners and patients." --Andrew Weil, MD

4 of 7 people found the following review helpful By G. Colburn on May 7, 2008
Format: Hardcover
Finding a decent book on CAM has been difficult. This is the best book I have seen yet! Being a nurse certified in pain I always look for familiar authors. The authors and contributors to this book are both familiar and local to the Boston area where I practice.
An area of importance in treatment of pain is concern for the patient. This validates the pain and the patient knows someone is listening. This book enables the patient to "accept their limitations" (of pain) and be able to live a life that is best for them. The model of this book emphasizes therapeutic approaches to enhance healthy forms of living "while factors such as candy bars and coffee consumed all day long" will not be ignored.
