This review is from: Intel DP55SB Desktop Board (LGA1156, DDR3) (Personal Computers)
The Intel DP55SB motherboard; It is part of my first computer build. I am fairly young so it did take me a while to carefully choose and buy this motherboard XD I had trouble running the new build. The system was dead. After testing out the power supply, I wasn't sure whether the problem lay with the motherboard or the i5-750 processor.
I was impatient as any other person would be and decided to ask Amazon for a replacement of the mobo. But the night before I was planning to send back the items I tried them again. Tested the board and CPU on the bench. Ahh... It turns out the CPU was not seated properly. Tested the board and the CPU in the case with everything connected. Again, dead. Starting plugging and unplugging cords. Oh damn, for some reason I cannot connect the fans to both the power supply and the board. Hey, I'm no computer wiz and I have no idea why... Anyways the case was alive! It was sheer happiness at this accomplishment, building your own computer! So now onto the board itself, it is Micro-ATX, therefore it does give room for additional fans and stuff... Yet it still delivers the same goodies as its daddy, the DP55KG. Note that it just has less PCI slots. Bluetooth? Haven't tried yet even though that's the reason I saved up for this board. Though the abundant USB ports are good as well as the HD audio support. The Intel "Desktop Control Center" is a must for overclocking and such, its like a cool-looking bios. In conclusion, please don't give up on any motherboard and deem it as defective when your new pc does not turn on. Mess around with the cables and such, make sure the processor is seated properly, and don't curse at the mobo =D. It supports SLI if you're into that stuff, overall the DP55SB is definitely a reliable motherboard. Oh by the way, it only supports certain type of memory (DDR3 1066/1333 MHZ). Just check the Intel site for the recommended memory modules. Cheers!

This is a great product. I bought it for the RAID and onboard surround sound capabilities (kinda an HTPC for general use, though). I was getting all sorts of BSODs and I thought it was a bad board so I returned it for a replacement. It turned out that it was just a bad Memory Module.
I really love the Intel Desktop Control Center. It helps you by automatically overclocking your system. To use that, I'd recommend turning off UAC and turning on autologon (Go to Run, type "control userpasswords2", and uncheck the box). Then just set it and let it do its thing for like 8 hours. Come back and you've got an optimized system. If you're using it, turn off disk caching when you do this because the system will cut the power a lot of times and you'll get a screwed up OS if you're using it when you run these tests. I have a RAID 5 set up with 4 500GB drives and it's working well. It also has a GTX 470 that I'm hoping to flash with a superclocked BIOS. I was able to build the whole system for under $600 and it'll be as fast as systems twice that price and is still stable.

This is an awesome board, great price cool performance, I have no regrets about choosing it when I was looking for a motherboard back then, I strongly recommend it.

Got a box with a big smash in it. Shipping box was clean. How do they not see that? Amazon as always, shipped me another OVERNIGHT, and it was perfectly intact. I will update this review when I install this and get it up and running. Product looks good and can't wait to play with it.
UPDATE: The DP55sb is awesome. This is the first time since 1999 that I feel I have a computer that is near the best. Will run multiple hi-def applications without slowing it down at all. I'm sure I got the i7-860 processor, Patriot Viper 4gb RAM(haven't needed more)(will do 16gb), WD650 black drive(the best one), HD 5750 AMD video, and 64 bit w7 op/sys. Ran me just over a thousand, but I got some deals that may normally put the entire system at $1500. W7 64 bit pro has some issues with the product key, but everything slammed in easier than some XP computers I rebuilt. Board has everything on it like Bluetooth, plenty of usb, firewire, esata in/out, etc. It is very very fast. |
