3.0 out of 5 stars Buyers beware, read this first, June 26, 2007
By
This review is from: Intel Desktop Board BOXD975XBXLKR ATX Motherboard with Intel 975X (Socket 775) (Personal Computers)
I purchased this board to build my Intel Core 2 Duo based dream machine. The price is right and it has great specs. It came to me as a surprise that this board was not compatible with a Core 2 Duo processor. Although the specifications on the Intel website state that the Core 2 Duo is one of the compatible processors, this board may come in different flavors or "revisions". The one I got did not boot (to my surprise) and I thought that the video card was faulty. It was not after I tried out a second card that I realized something else was wrong. The merchant bluntly told me that the revision I got was listed as incompatible with Core 2 Duo, but this is not evident because of the information on Intel's website.

The next model, D975XBX2 (with a two at the end) is my recommendation, since it has the added benefit of natively supporting not only Core 2 Quad processors, but also PC2 6400 (800MHz) memory. This board only supports PC2 5400 (667 MHz) memory and up to Core 2 Duo (depending on the revision). You can get it here: Intel D975XBX2 Intel Core 2 Duo Ready Socket 775 ATX Motherboard

4.0 out of 5 stars Great board... poor documentation, February 7, 2007

This review is from: Intel Desktop Board BOXD975XBXLKR ATX Motherboard with Intel 975X (Socket 775) (Personal Computers)
This is a seemingly great motherboard. Just beware though; IF you have an Intel Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.46Ghz processor, this board WILL NOT WORK! It just took me 2 days to realize that, after digging through support documentation and UPGRADING my 3.46Ghz P4 Extreme Edition processor to a 2.4Ghz processor that I was going to use for another computer. haha (2.4Ghz processor = a Core 2)

So now, I have a 3.46Ghz P4 Extreme Edition processor, that I paid over a grand for in late 2004, that doesn't have a motherboard... All because another earlier Intel motherboard broke down on me... :( (but I still stick with Intel motherboards because I'm either stubborn or just too forgiving...)

It just would have been nice if there's documentation that this board does NOT support a Pentium 4 Extreme Edition 3.46Ghz processor on the product description. (no retailers, that I know of, mentions it.) So just because it says Extreme Editions are supported or whatever else, do NOT assume that! Research through Intel's support site to confirm that. Because with stuff like this, ignorance is NOT bliss when something does not work when you're building a system.

2 thumbs UP for the engineers of this product and 2 thumbs DOWN for the marketing team (or whoever needs to take the blame for providing misleading/insufficient information for this product)... because with this supposedly supporting an Extreme Edition processor is more like an Extreme Headache. NOT ALL Extreme Editions are supported, apparently.

2.0 out of 5 stars No Sound Streaming Capture Ability, September 20, 2009
This review is from: Intel Desktop Board BOXD975XBXLKR ATX Motherboard with Intel 975X (Socket 775) (Personal Computers)
I have been happy with this board now for two years. But lately, I tried capturing audio from the Internet and am unable to do so. There is no way to use "Stereo-Mix" for the sound source with the Sigmatel sound drivers. It appears Intel deliberately had Sigmatel leave this option out. Only three solutions available to user, Mic in, Line in and Line out. And because there is few PCI slots, a sound card addition is difficult.
