I build a HTPC. I thought i7 will be over kill for my day to day usage. Choose to use this CPU over i3 2100 because it has HD 3000. HD 3000 has 12 graphics cores as oppose to 6 graphics core in HD 2000. If you are not going to use integrated graphics then i3 2100 is a better buy. After using it for a month all I can say is that it is really good CPU for the price. This CPU is missing Intel TurboBoost technology. But I don't miss TurboBoost because it already runs at 3.1Ghz. I know Windows Experience index is no the best benchmark in the world, but I am going to write my EI rating below for the people who wants to do a quick comparison.

cpu fan gets really loud after 30 days. cup fan is made in low quality. wish intel could replace my cpu fan. cpu itself is very powerful. HD3000 is no problem with running NFS 13 @1280*800. no problem with 1080p video. Saved money for a graphic card.

Have this with an ASUS m/b ASUS P8H61-M <REV 3.0> Intel H61 (B3) DDR3 1333 microATX Motherboard and 8GB of G-SKILL.
Surprisingly, windows rating is 6.3 for both 3D and gaming graphics. The lowest denominator is still my HD. It is a machine for my daughter to surf web, play some games and watch some videos. Nothing that require top notch performance.
I am very impressed with performance of HD3000. Will get another one of these (son's PC) once price of HD become reasonable.
