4.0 out of 5 stars O/S for PC Camera, December 30, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Intel ICP3 PC Camera Pack USB (Personal Computers)
Just a note - the software is not compatible with NT, only Win '95b or Win '98. Otherwise, picture quality is great, waiting for another family member to install to test sound.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent image quality and good features, February 2, 2000

I compared this camera with the Creative Labs Web Cam 3. Intel Pc Camera shows a better and a superior image quality. The software is A+ plus, you can create videos, take photos or send cards through the internet. Dont forget the video conference capabilities (the package include two licences of Intel video phone software). But before you install this camera in your PC, go to tech customer support site to get the correct software ID number, (this is incorrectly labeled in the package). A special note; many friends are reporting configuration problems with pcs equiped with ATIs video cards or ATIs video software.

I bought this camera to add some fun to my computer. The installation was easy, I just plugged it into an open USB port put in the CD and within 10 minutes I was using the camera. The software is great. There are some games that come with it that allow you to play basketball using the camera. Although the games are a bit cheesy, it's still a great idea. I used the software to film myself saying hi to my mom and I e-mailed it to her. She loved it. She now has it on her desktop and plays it all the time. There is also a internet phone call option which is more difficult because it requires the person you want to call to have the same software. But Intel was thinking and they included an extra CD to give to a friend. I can take great snapshots with the camera too. With the correct light, the pictures are almost as good as any digital camera. The package came with a chance to get extra free software that included a program that took a picture at certain time intervals or when it sensed motion (a lot of fun to spy on people while you're away). Also it included basic webpage building software, great for beginners. The last program allowed me to create longer movies out of pictures, movies and wavs that I had previously made. I sent the free software offer in and within a week and a half I got it (UPS!). Great product. Great price. I saw it advertised at Best Buy for more than $10 more.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best USB Cam out there at a great price. Easy to install., August 10, 2000

I did a lot of research and I saw many positive recommmendations for this camera.

The price is very reasonable and it is very easy to install. Just load the software, reboot and plug in your USB Camera and you are ready to go. It comes with software to take snapshots and make digital videos (but you need a separate microphone because it doesn't come with one). I've made several video clips of my kids and emailed them to family. I'm not sure what the minimum PC requirements are. I have a 400 mhz Pentium II with 128 mb of ram.

The resolution isn't the greatest but I like using it with MSN Messenger and Microsoft NetMeeting. If your friends and family have MSN Messenger, you are two mouse clicks away from having a video call over your PC. I bought this for other family members and we can do a 2 way video call from across the country. The better the connection you have, the better the video stream. I have used in on Cable Modem and a 56K connection. My friends also want to buy one.

This camera is a lot of fun.

1.0 out of 5 stars Compatibility problems with HP 8580C computers, January 13, 2000

Picture quality is very good. But I have had compatibility problems with my new HP 8580C computer (purchased 8-99). When you go into program for the 1st time the computer freezes up after entering the configuration wizard, user info screen. Intel told me to download Rip2141 from Riptide. I did that and got past the config. wizard, but lost the ability to play any midi file. I was the told to download har105 and was able then to play midi files, but could not get past the video size test in the configuration wizard. Intel worked with me and also HP worked with me but each ended up blaming the other and my Intel program still doesn't work. Camera works with MS Net Meeting though.

4.0 out of 5 stars easy to install, good picture quality, update your drivers!, August 13, 2000
This review is from: Intel ICP3 PC Camera Pack USB (Personal Computers)
i use this camera on win98 exclusively. you can't install it on an NT or win2000 machine (the software won't install, nor will the updated drivers); on win98, very easy to get working. you can use it with any popular videoconferencing program that you like. the included software is nice to organize photo albums or make video movies. you can also use software to create web pages, and even a web cam (download the new software from intel.com); the focus wheel is on top of the camera, which makes focusing hard if you aren't right next to it....the lens cover is nice if you want to close it and protect the lens. the base is pretty stable, and comes with a bit of sticky tape so you can firmly mount it. if you don't use the sticky tape, i recommend velcro for easy mobility to different angles, otherwise the weight of the usb cable will cause it to tip a bit if it's not firmly seated. there are two lense settings for indoor and outdoor, but i've never used the outdoor option. (it's really a setting for light balance); update your drivers from intel.com and you get the pan and zoom features, as well as fixes to some of the hue and colour balance options.

4.0 out of 5 stars Use Your Imagination..., July 16, 2000

This was my first webcam, and I got my moneys worth for sure. It isn't perfect, but it is fast and easy to set up and start using.

There are many cool features like custom Postcards you can create, video conferencing, or games. It comes with several galleries of clip art and photos to help you get started. You can also take pictures and make videos. The picture quality is decent too. As I said before, use your imagination and you can have a ball with this thing! I photograph my art work and blast it into cyberspace in the blink of an eye. Yowza!

3.0 out of 5 stars Intel Camera Only Runs With 95/98 No 2000 Drivers, May 16, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Intel ICP3 PC Camera Pack USB (Personal Computers)
The Camera Runs GREAT on my Win98se machine. But dont try to run it on a Win2000 Machine, according to Intel Support, there are no supported or beta drivers. Intel's software wont even load on a 2000. Stay away if your running Win2K
