Actually it's great for Windows XP or Windows 7 (32- or 64-bit), but I would avoid using it for Dual-Boot style installation if the Win7 version is 64-bit. The features on this new "so2" version are excellent. Intel really did their homework after the original series got spanked by ASUS and Gigabyte: Now it handles up to 24 GB RAM (previously 16 GB) and has improved cooling for chipsets (no more add-on loud mini fan needed!). Your advanced tower cooler may have a bit of a problem clearing some tall RAM heatsinks, so be sure your fan mount height can be adjusted vertically; then it's no big deal. The PWM fan headers are nice, but all headers are 3-or-4 pins yet only three of five are actually PWM controlled; this could be a source of confusion. The "efficient" moniker comes from the ability of this mobo to properly "hybrid-sleep" with Windows 7 64-bit. Some other boards fail to sleep due to poorly integrated Marvell SATA-3 controllers. This one sleeps great and draws less power in hybrid sleep mode or Power Off, versus other makers' boards, especially if those boards have "legacy" connectors. Keep in mind that this modern design totally abandons "legacy" connectors like PS2, floppy, parallel. This could create an interesting issue if you are not prepared for that "F6: insert floppy now" installation step required for some installs(You get around this by using a USB floppy or a USB flash drive, prepared well in advance!) Intel has the most excellent support for info and drivers on their website. Saves headaches! Board kit includes high quality SATA cables and neat stuff.

Amazing product!! I love intel and buy this to upgrade the other DX58SO MOBO

-Sata 3 support ( really fast...between 140 to 100 mb/s with a Sata 3 HDD)
-More Memory Support ( using 12gb right now. But i will update to 24gb soon)
-USb 3.0 support
-comes with the optional wi-fi and bluetooth device and works great!!

I purchased this board as an upgrade to the earlier version, the DX58SO. I liked the 6 RAM slots, USB 3.0 and other advanced features. I pulled all the peripherals from the older board and would then upgrade to 24 GB of RAM to run VM's and take advantage of the 6gb SATA interface. On boot up got the 3 one second beeps continuously. Started trouble shooting the RAM and then found I needed to contact customer service as nothing I tried to quickly remedy the situation helped. Then the real time consuming trouble began. I was repeatedly told the components I was using were not compatible. No matter how hard I tried to convince the CS reps that I was a system builder and that what they were telling me was inconsistent with what I new about building. I don't think any of them had ever built one system let alone many of them. I don't know this for a fact, but I am most suspicious as the time, language difficulties and time taken to respond seemed scripted.

I went through all the processes required of me with lots of apologies, spent over 8 hrs and with exhaustive trial and error, including the "approved" memory only to learn that slots 1 and 4 of the RAM, the closest to the processor, were defective. Through the process I was actually able to boot the board and learned the 1.6v ram was only running at 1.5 volts on default contrary to what they told me and insisted this was what caused the boot issue. Ok, no big deal. But now I had to update the board to the latest BIOS to see if that would fix the issue. It didn't. Now they agreed the board was defective. Hours gone. They were to email me with info to get the replacement handled. It would take a half hour. Nothing heard. That was Friday the 2nd day of dealing with the issue.

This board is awesome. I upgraded from DX58SO and the evolution to USB 3.0 and SATA III is worth it (specially if you have a SSD drive). The RAM is oriented diferently than the DX58SO, and is actually much more friendly with cases with PSU in the bottom. I got it around Frebruary 2011 and had some troubles with the Marvell SATA III drivers (blue screens of death!), but luckily this was fixed a couple weeks afterwards with a drivers update. Has PCIe x1, x4 and x16, AMD crossfire, Nvidia SLI, dual Gigabit Ethernet and many features more!. Please be sure to upgrade your BIOS, since there was a bug at boot time (long boots) when some USB devides were connected.

This model comes with a Bluetooth/Wifi adaptor which connects to a internal USB port and sticks to the back of your PC case. Nice!
