I am sure you can push this much further with no problem but I did not want to push my luck.

Alright so this is a great processor! Installed easy and the heat sink comes with thermal paste applied for convenience. Easy to install and instructions are simple. This also overclocks well. I got it up to 3.8GHz with the stock cooler never reaching about 75C. I am sure you can push this much further with no problem but I did not want to push my luck. Overall I think this is an excellent choice for people that use a computer for light to moderate gaming or multitasking.

-----Pros-----
Easy to install
Easy to understand instructions
Can overclock to 3.8GHz with stock cooler
Never goes above 75C even with overclock.
Fast
Duel threads per core
Integrated video controller

-----Cons-----
Not the fastest for video editing or other programs that support many cores well

Not much to complain about works like it should.

I purchased this CPU with a Gigabyte motherboard at a local retail store to replace a 4-year old 3.0GHz Pentium-4HT home server running Linux. No computation-heavy tasks have run so far.

Very good news is the power consumption has reduced dramatically. The old server often reported automatic reduction of CPU clock due to excess CPU temperatures in summer. The system power consumption is now only 70W down from 120W including motherboard and a 4-disk RAID5 array on both systems.

This is a good CPU. I paired it with a Gigabyte GA-H57 USB3 motherboard. Easy to install, package included cooling fan with thermal grease already installed. I didn't realize that the i3 doesn't have Intel's "Turbo Boost" but that is not an issue with the processor just my research. However, the processor is fast at a good price and the integrated graphics controller works well and is good for everyday systems.

Sure this is slightly slower than the i3-550 and i3-560, and slower than the i5 and i7, but that doesn't matter. And at a 3rd of the price of the i7, you can use this just fine until you save up for the i7. It's good enough to run modern games (I can play Skyrim and many other games), videos, photoshop, etc. etc. with no problems. The Intel Integrated Graphics crashed constantly on Windows 7 64 bit no matter what driver I used, but once I threw in a graphics card, this processor was wonderful. I highly recommend this for pc builders - even gamers - that are on a budget.

For me, this was just a "for now" CPU. Going to one of the i7K CPUs in maybe 6-8 months. But this CPU is doing a great job. Replaced a PC that had a Q6600. I think this is a bit faster than that. Very happy w/ this CPU.

Built a computer on Christmas day for my sixteen year old son. He plays Warcraft. This was my first build. Put it on an ASUS H55 motherbaord. Everyone is happy.

I wouldn't put this in my gaming machine, but I just built a very cheap media server/firewall/server with this that works great and is so much faster, quieter, and less energy hungry than the old P4.

It was very easy to install (I still have nightmares about the Athlons), and the fan comes pre-greased with a couple strips of thermal compound.

If all you're doing is web browsing, email, or using Office this is all you need. For FPS gaming, video editing, data crunching you might want something more.

I recently built a desktop PC for everyday use with this CPU, a Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB mini-itx motherboard, Lian-Li PC-Q07 tower and a Microcenter 64GB SSD. The performance of the machine overall is fantastic. This is quite a step up (expected of course) from the dual-core Atom D525 mini-itx setup that I was using before albeit quite a bit more expensive. WEI rating for this processor is 7.0 which is also impressive for Intel's nearly bottom-of-the-line Clarkdale offering. Being the third one of these type of processors I've installed recently, installation was pretty easy. Just know ahead of time that getting the heatsink pins to properly seat in the motherboard is going to require a bit more force than feels comfortable but that's what it takes.

The one nit I have with this processor package however is the stock heatsink fan (minus one star). It's very whiny. My Antec EA380D PSU is silent, there's no HDD noise because I have an SSD, but now I hear this whiny fan that just gets worse when the temps ramp up. It seems to constantly adjusting speeds. It's just really annoying. I might consider replacing it with a better aftermarket cooler.

Overall though, it's great. I've got another one that I am going to make an HTPC with and then I'll get to test the HD video/audio capabilities. I will come back and update this review with that experience.

--- Update 12/20/2010 ---

The fan is something you would think you'd get used to but it's awful. It's PWM controlled by the motherboard and everything you do changes the speed and pitch of the fan. I can actually here it across the room. Now I've got to drop $30 on a new heatsink/fan in addition to what this already cost. If you're at all affected by noise, this might not be the processor for you.
