Intel Solid State Drive 730 Series
PERFORMANCE UNLEASHED. Look Inside.

Born from the data center, the Intel Solid-State Drive 730 Series delivers uncompromised performance for PC enthusiasts by combining factory tuned components and data center DNA.

Optimized for Performance

Maximize your computing experience with the fastest consumer Intel Solid-State Drive delivered to date. The Intel Solid-State Drive 730 Series is built with a specially qualified 3rd generation Intel controller. Performance optimized firmware and 20nm Intel NAND Flash Memory take it a step further by factory overclocking these components for a 50% increase in controller speed and 20% increase in NAND bus speed. Optimized for the most demanding tasks, including digital content creation and extreme gaming, the Intel Solid-State Drive 730 Series delivers low 50µs read latency, up to 550 MB/s sequential reads and random reads up to 86,000 IOPS.

Intel Data Center DNA

The Intel Solid-State Drive 730 Series also delivers extreme endurance of up to 70GB writes per day for five years (compared to the industry typical 20GB), providing peace of mind for anyone requiring dependable up-time from their workstation or gaming rig. Intel’s advanced firmware algorithms provide consistent performance that you can rely on for both compressible and incompressible data types, plus data center efficiency and dependability.

Intel SSD 730 Series + Intel Rapid Storage Technology

Digital content creation experts and PC enthusiasts know the highest storage performance is achieved with RAID configurations, especially as Solid-State Drives start to saturate the SATA bus. Two 240GB Intel Solid-State Drive 730 Series in a RAID-0 configuration provide the same storage capacity as a single 480GB drive— but the throughput nearly doubles to an amazing 1000 MB/s when coupled with Intel platforms supporting Intel Rapid Storage Technology (Q87, H87, Z87 & X79).

With the Intel Solid-State Drive 730 Series inside your build, you get:
  • Performance in a Flash: Less lag with 50µs read latencies and consistently high transfer rates and application loads with up to 550 MB/s sequential reads1,2 and 86,000 IOPS random reads1,2
  • Data Center DNA: Extreme endurance of up to 70GB of writes per day,1,3 consistent performance across all data types, and RAID performance scaling beyond 1GB/s
  • Quality and Reliability: 3rd generation Intel controller and 5-year warranty

I love this SSD!!!
Talk about speed and throughput, and then add in the reliability of Intel SSD's, and now, also the cost of Intels SSD's, this one is a MONSTER Performer!

Also, I purchased the 480Gb version of this Intel 730 SSD, and have no idea of why Amazon listed my review being for the 240Gb SSD???
So this review is for the 480Gb Intel 730 SSD.

Also please note, the advertized speeds of this SSD are meant for a SATA III device.
So if your running this in a laptop or desktop computer, that only has SATA II capabilities, your speeds are going to be slower.
Still, this is a very fast SSD, even when used in a SATA II laptop/desktop!

I've been using SSD's since Intels X25 was released.
Since that time, I've used many different brands, from Crucial, OCZ, Samsung, and Mushkin, and throughout the years, I've always gone back to using Intel, due to failure rates.
Intel leads the pack with much fewer returns due to failures.
& Yep, you can easily find this information online, with just a few word searches.
SSD reviews, Best SSD's, Most reliable SSD's, SSD Failure Rates....
Google any one/or all, of those, and you'll find the info you need.

This 730 is the fastest Intel SSD I've ever used, and as I said earlier, I've used a lot of em!
They are a snap to install, and I already have Acronis Image 2014, which clones and copies your OS perfectly, then a few commands later, your set up and are using your new desktop/laptop, with Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Fast, Reliable, and now, Intel's pricing is much more competitive.
Just awesome!!!
I do highly recommend this SSD, for any desktop, or Laptop computer.

Intel has a good reputation as an SSD manufacturer. Even if they don't directly manufacture the device, they have high standards that some of the other vendors don't match.

This SSD has a capacitor for preventing corruption from power loss. A surprisingly low number of SSDs have a capacitor to avoid corruption.

These are expensive but there are few non-enterprise SSDs that have capacitors. If I had to do it over again, I would check out the new Crucial SSDs which are significantly cheaper and also have a capacitor. Either way, I wouldn't regret buying these again since Intel has a great reputation in this area.

I have read that they run hot. My case (Fractal Design Define R4) has a 140mm fan right in front of them. I wouldn't necessarily recommend a R4 (or Fractal Design) but a case with a fan in front of the drives may help.

After much research, I got this new Intel SSD as additional HD in a new 'build'. Even though this is labeled "Intel", it is Intel only by design. The main chip is produced under licensed for Intel, and it's assembled in you know where. Disappointing, as I thought my SSD would be assembled in 'merica by one of those super geeks you see on their TV adds. I'll live with the homeboy design only.

My system is a Win 8.1 driven workstation with a quad core, error correcting 3.4GHz Xeon processor running 16GB of memory. The SFF box came with a plain jane 2.5 " 7200RPM SATA 3 HDD installed with an extra cage for the SSD.

I have to say that the install was so easy, even a caveman could do it. Migration software which Intel provided a link for, was a 'few clicks and done' affair. Further, the monitoring software from Intel is a beautifully oriented program, executed in a full windows environment-which means 'point and click' to what you want to do or look at. I may be lucky because this was a new system, with just the OS and hardware drivers on a new HD. Your experience may vary, at least according to others who have attempted to install a SSD (and that's ANY SSD) on a system that's been around the moon(take a look at the '1' ratings on some other SSD's).

Although I bought the "reseller" package, which came with a SATA cable, and mounting screws, I did not need them. My bay was already configured (complete with cables) for a second 2.5" drive. If you have a 3.5" bay, you will need an adapter kit. I slid mine into the spring tension bay and called it 'installed'; no screws needed. It's not like a rattle trap10K rpm drive that needs a straight jacket.

Curiously, the reseller kit was less money than the bare drive without installation accessories.

Length: 0:26 Mins
Installed 2 days ago. So far so good. No problems installing or cloning hdd to ssd. Downloaded Intel tool box on hdd prior to installing ssd. Process to install was less than 30 minutes. Reseller Kit comes with SSD, SATA Cable, 4 screws to secure drive, cd warranty and instructions. Speed Demon Decal. The firmware was good from the start and no updates were required. Toolbox shows the SSD Life Status which allows you to have better control on usage. Running: Intel i5 - 3.4 GHZ CPU, Cosair 8 GB Ram, Intel Motherboard.

Update 8/23/14: SSD still performs great. I am using Standard Hard Drive for storage of files, photo's, etc. SSD still remaining at 100 percent life and drive health good on Intel's SSD Monitoring Software.
