The Intel Core i5-2400 Processor has four cores running at 3.1 GHz.
Quad-Core Processor Running at 3.10 GHz for Fast Performance

The Intel Core i5-2400 has four processing cores running at 3.10 GHz. It features a 6 MB L3 shared cache that is dynamically allocated to each processor core, based on workload. This reduces latency and improves performance.

Additionally, the i5 comes with Advanced Vector Extensions, a set of instructions to improve software performance for intensive applications like audio processing, audio codecs, and image and video editing applications.

Turbo Boost for Extra Processor Speed

The Core i5-2400 features Intel Turbo Boost Technology 2.0, which delivers a burst of processor speed automatically when the workload demands additional performance. The technology dynamically increases the processor's frequency as needed by taking advantage of thermal and power headroom when operating below specified limits. The result is adaptive performance that's more intelligent and energy efficient.

Built-In Visuals Provide Rich, Steady Graphics

The built-in visuals of the Intel Core i5-2400 Processor deliver a seamless graphic experience when you're viewing and manipulating pictures and media on your PC. They also eliminate the need for a discrete graphics card, reducing power consumption and system cost.

Intel Quick Sync Video enables quick conversions of video files for portable media players or online sharing. Experience sharp images and rich color with Clear Video Technology, which provides visual quality and color fidelity enhancements for vivid high-definition and Blu-ray playback. Intel HD Graphics offers enhanced 3D performance for immersive mainstream and casual gaming without hesitations or interruptions.

The Intel Core i5 is also equipped with Intel InTru3D, which provides stereoscopic 3D Blu-ray playback in full 1080p resolution and premium audio via HDMI 1.4.

Intel Virtualization Technology

Intel Virtualization Technology allows multiple "virtual" environments to function on one hardware platform. It offers improved manageability, limiting downtime and maintaining productivity by isolating computing activities into separate partitions.

Optimized for Energy Efficiency

The Intel Core i5 is designed to optimize every watt of electricity, resulting in a more energy-efficient system that is cooler and cheaper to run. In a system with other energy-efficient components, the processor can meet Energy Star specifications.

What's in the Box

Intel Core i5-2400 processor, fan/heat-sink cooling solution, warranty booklet, and Intel Inside logo label.

I have never had any issues with an intel CPU, so I decided a couple extra bucks was worth the peace of mind.

Keep in mind, there are better processors, but this one is fast enough to handle pretty much anything you throw at it, for now at least.
gabe brown
I opted not to get aftermarket cooler because temperatures seemed fine and because installation of stock fan was so easy (just push in).

I was planning on ordering an i3-2100 dual core, but for a $60 price difference, I chose this QUAD CORE processor instead.

The processor fits the 1155 socket on any Sandy Bridge motherboard, and includes Intel HD2000/3000 graphics so you can avoid buying a separate graphics card. This full retail package includes a basic fan heatsink cooler which simply clips over the processor, keeping temperatures between 38 degrees and about 55 degrees in my two fan PC. The heatsink includes thermal coupling already applied, so all you need to do is click the heatsink into the motherboard and plug in the fan.

It has way exceeded expectations in performance. I'm seeing 8300 on GeekBench, putting this machine in the same league as previous generation i7 processors.

It is possible to slightly overclock this processor from 3.1 GHz to about 3.8 GHz, but if you want to do this, you will probably want the i5-2500K variant, which is fully unlocked and usable up to 5+ GHz with appropriate cooling.

I'm extremely happy with this purchase.

Used this processor in a new HTPC build. It may have been a little overkill, but I wanted something I could depend on for my main HTPC (the one recording shows and used most frequently). The build as a whole has surpassed my expectations. The processor gives the PC plenty of juice, and, in conjunction with the MSI H67MA-E45 mobo, allow me to utilize the on board graphics without issue. The components I used were most certainly on the expensive side for a limited HTPC application, but I wanted to ensure a high degree of dependability. I have never had any issues with an intel CPU, so I decided a couple extra bucks was worth the peace of mind. Here is the build:

Mobo - MSI H67MA-E45
CPU: Intel i5-2400
PSU - OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W Modular High-Performance PSU
RAM - Corsair Memory 8 Dual Channel Kit DDR3 1600
HD - Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB SATA III 7200 RP
Case - Antec Fusion Remote Black Micro ATX Media Center / HTPC Case
Tuner - Ceton InfiniTV 4 Digital Cable Quad-tuner Card PCIe

Makes for a beast of an HTPC.

I bought this processor that came bundled with with the Intel DH67BL motherboard for about $320 and I couldn't be happier. Intel has certainly out done themselves with this piece of work. The processor is noticeably faster than the previous generation of the Intel Core i5 family line. This processor has the GPU integrated into the processor itself, and with the motherboard I'm using, it is capable of supporting it's own graphics demands; however I don't use the feature. I'm using the Intel stock fan that came with the processor and the processor temperature stays within its safe operating range.

Key notes:
-noticeably faster than previous generation
-temperature stays within range (using the Intel stock fan)
-integrated GPU in processor
-various Intel technologies allow the processor to efficiently and effectively process data.

I have been working with computers for quite a while and played around with everything from monster Core i7's, dual quad Xeon's, down to Celeron and Pentium III's, and I can say that I've never met a CPU that did as many thing well as this one. We order all the computers we buy for customers with this CPU from Dell.

This is Intel's 2nd generation "Sandy Bridge" quad core CPU. It's built on Intel's LGA 1155 socket with 32nm lithography Core architecture that's been pretty much the benchmark by which all other CPU's are judged. It's spec'd at 95W TDP, and it's clocked at 3.1 GHz, 4 cores, 4 thread (no hyper threading), with a 6MB L3 cache, and has Turbo Boost to 3.4 GHz. There may be AMD CPU's out there with better specs, higher clock speeds, but don't let that fool you because this thing is fast. It will hang with or best any comparable AMD CPU in just about every benchmark test (on 3DMark it runs 5500) out there due to Intel's architecture and packaging. It has a long list of features, including Intel's vPro technology for enterprise applications (great for scalability), virtualization, 64-bit support, 1600 MHz DDR3 memory support, Intel's Hyper Transport, Turbo Boost 2.0, built-in (on chip) HD 2000 graphics at 850 MHz so you don't need to run a separate graphics card. Thanks Intel. It handled everything thrown at it. You can do CAD with it at work then go home and play games (with an appropriate GPU) at the highest settings without any troubles. This isn't an "unlocked" CPU (with the core multiplier unlocked so you can adjust it for over clocking), so if you want to overclock it, it's best to go to the 2500k (k is unlocked).

For a desktop CPU, this is one of the better choices out there, and this is showing its age.

I have my computer(s) on much of the day and I wanted both great performance and energy efficiency. This CPU with the ASUS Motherboards ability to adjust the power give me the package I want. So far the i5 has exceeded my needs; it performs great.
I am not a gamer and chose to use the built in video. Now it is in the CPU, not on the motherboard. The colors are vivid and the picture is very good.
