Processor Series
This is the name the manufacturer gives to a series of CPUs using the same technology. You will want to make sure your chosen CPU matches the type your motherboard is designed to accept.
Intel Core i5-4430
Intel Core i5
Core i5-4570
Intel Core i5
Processor Speed
Processor speed indicates how quickly the CPU can perform calculations. Higher speeds allow for faster calculations, meaning less wait time.
3 GHz
3.3 GHz
3.2 GHz
3.2 GHz
Number of Cores
Many modern CPUs have multiple cores. The number of cores is the number of processors that make up the CPU. Having more cores allows the CPU to perform more calculations at once, meaning less wait time.

CPU Socket Type
The socket type is the kind of connection used to mount the CPU to the motherboard. Intel and AMD each make their own types of sockets. You will want to make sure your new CPU socket type matches that of your chosen motherboard.
Used in an ITX build for my previous concrete contractor boss who enjoys video games. He wanted to play World of Tanks and his current Dell laptop with a first generation i3 couldn't get it beyond 20fps on minimum. Now he is seeing steady 30fps and more at low mixed with some medium settings, using the iGPU. He is quite pleased.
Stock fan and inside a Cooler Master Elite 120, this runs average of 40-45C, idle being higher 30's. A stock fan isn't to be expected as a workhorse anyway. Though at these figures, that isn't even close to getting hot. During World of Tanks play it doesn't speed the CPU fan at all, but I hadn't any method of testing the temp during game play, but certainly not a drop of lag on the appropriate settings.
Most often those looking for self builds are convinced of a CPU that can be overclocked. Don't fall victim for this whatsoever. Keep in mind the 60fps v-sync standard that most play by, as that is to match the 60hz produced by your television. Currently these CPU's can handle a large binary workload in gaming sessions, without much sweat.
To give proof OCing is needless, let me share some game benchmarks that I have taken the time to research.
Under Windows 8(which shows nearly identical performance of Windows 7): *Please keep in mind the i7 has hyperthreading which is also needless in games* *The machines are identical but the CPU was the only difference -- also using discrete graphics, not iGPU for these benchmarks*
Skyrim using an i3-3220 received 185FPS Skyrim using an i7-3770k received 234FPS
At the moment this is the lowest cost Haswell CPU. That might change later this year / month / week / hour. Since it's cheap, what's missing compared to the other Haswell chips?
1) It's slower than the rest by a bit. You might take a 20% speed hit, possibly more if you over clock 2) It's a I-5 and not an I-7. This time around the I-7's are hyper thread and the I-5's are (mostly) not. 3) It's missing a few instructions related to virtualization. 4) It's not as low power as some
What's in there compared to the other Haswell's you can easily buy?
1) Same graphics engine, similar speed as the rest 2) Same 4 cores as the I-5's and I-7's (there is one I-5 with 2 cores, but it's not easy to find) 3) Same 1150 series motherboard compatibility
Great little part for the money. If a frame rate of 71 vs 60 ( or 24 vs 20) is life or death to you - spend more money on another CPU.
The built in video is fine for normal use, it's not going to give you uber frame rates on that brand new game that just came out. Plan on buying a couple of GTX-7xx's to really get those high frame rates. Those video cards each will cost you more than this CPU (maybe a *lot* more).

I got this as part of a budget build that I was doing. This particular CPU went into an ASUS B85M-G motherboard with no issues, even though I hated the small manual with small drawings as instructions that came with the Intel chip. I used the stock heatsink that came with the chip but I added Artic silver to the chip for better heat transfer. Although I would recommend that if you are planning to do anything high end that you should add a better heatsink than the stock.
I added Kingston Technology HyperX 8 GB (2x4 GB Modules) 1600 MHz DDR3 Dual Channel Kit with no issues into the board in addition I added the EVGA GeForce GTX 650 1024MB GDDR5 DVI mHDMI Graphics Card 01G-P4-2650-KR along with a Seagate Barracuda 3 TB HDD SATA 6 hard drive. After connecting all the cables and turning on the machine, I had no issues with compatibility or hardware problems. I am using Windows 7 Home premium as the OS.
The CPU runs fast and is efficient and is perfect for my budget build. Although not as fast as the more expensive chips, this is one of the best priced CPU's for its capabilities and speed. I have had no issues with anything hardware related and all these hardware pieces played nicely with each other.

I built a PC for my parents as theirs bit the dust by way of a motherboard failure, I suggested that I could build them a killer PC (for their needs) for a bit cheaper than buying a prebuilt from some company.
This CPU running the new "Haswell" architecture is blazing fast, miles ahead of my older i3-3220. If I would have waited a few months I would have bought this for myself as it was only about $80 more than mine. This is paired up with a Gigabyte Z87 (GA-Z87-D3HP) motherboard and 6 gigabytes of RAM which is plenty for what they need.
Basically all they do on the computer is surf the web, money management and occasionally my dad will edit some pictures. I'd definitely recommend this for anyone wanting a balance of speed and value, AMD still has a better value/performance ratio but I'd choose Intel any day simply because of personal preference.
