If you are one of the unfortunate ones with a broadcom wireless card, ie the terrible Dell 1390, on your Ubuntu laptop then this is a must have. It's fairly easy to replace the cards, look at the laptop service manual.Ubuntu recognizes the card instantly. Everything works, including WPA.

I bought this card to replace a Ralink card inside my new notebook. I needed Linux compatibility and the Intel 3945abg offers great Linux compatibility. This card works great in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 and Ubunutu 6.10. The signal that I get using this card is fantastic -- much better than most of the PCMCIA cards that I have used in the past. The card is really easy to install (snap in, screw down two screws, and connect two antenna pigtails).

I replaced my BCM4311 (Broadcom/Dell 1390)with the Intel 3945 in my Dell e1505. My main motivation was having a more Linux-friendly wireless card (coming from the BCM4311, it can't get much worse). After reinstalling Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn), wireless worked great out of the box...no need to download any drivers. After going to the Dell Support page and getting the Intel drivers, things were working great in Windows too.I can't really tell any signal differences...both seemed to work fine for me. So far, this has been the best $30 I've spent on my laptop. Fully recommended...especially for the Linux enthusiast.

Got a Compaq Presario notebook from a local ISP promotion, but it came with a Broadcom wlan. The wifi range for the Broadcom was poor since I could normally get very good signal coverage from my Acer notebook running an Atheros card. I purchased this Intel wlan and swap it with the Broadcom, and my wifi reception problem was solved. Words of caution: If you are matching this Intel PRO/Wireless wlan with a DLink DGL-4300 router, it seems the DLink would occassionally drop your connection.

Purchased as a replacement for the BRCM card bundled with my Dell Mini 9. Very easy to install as a drop-in replacement, Jaunty has built-in driver support. Receiver sensitivity is good with this card, better than the card it replaced. Having 802.11a support is also handy.Keep in mind that this SKU is OEM packaged, basically a static envelope, so you may have to download drivers for your OS from Intel's Support Website. Vendor Support (iNET Expert) - 5 stars for prompt shipment

Great little card,

I bought this for my MSI Wind netbook to switch out from the terrible card it came with. Installation was a breeze (I did it on my lunch break), and the new card works great. I used Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux; both recognized it immediately. With Ubuntu (Hardy and Intrepid) I didn't have to compile any drivers, excellent!

So far, seems compatible with both Windows Vista and Linux (OpenSuse 10.3 with updates)I recently got an Acer 5720-4171 which came with an (AMBIT made) Atheros AR5BX63 card (I think it uses the 5007EG chipset). This card was not yet supported by the madwifi/Atheros driver project at the time for X86-64, and I wanted to dual boot with Linux (for me) and Vista (for the wife). I got this card, with expedited delivery so I could try it in the laptop's return period. PCUniverse dropped the ball on the initial order and unilaterally cancelled it, but a second attempt got me a quick delivery at a decent price from Amazon. The card installation was really pretty simple, the antenna conectors are marked main and aux on both cards, and although they happened to be the same positions on both the cards I used, I'm not sure if that is coincidence or if it is standard. Attaching the antena was not too difficult to remove or attach (the trick is to get them aligned properly, then they click into place). OpenSUSE 10.3's native support detected it in Yast, just be sure to add the repositories for the Intel Drivers, I needed newer ones than appear in the default repository set. I grabbed the most recent version of the IWL3945 drivers and it worked. and I was able to activate the card pretty quickly, I got a driver CD/DVD for windows Vista, but I don't think it is necessary, it looks like Vista picked it right up. So far I've avoided windows side driver upgrades, I'm not sure if I'll ever need/want them based on negative feedback in the forum, although I suspect newer Vista drivers may have better behavior based on the dates of the complaints I'm seeing on-line (most of them are about 6 months old or so at the time of writing).

Excellent range, reliability, and value.,

Hi,I have a Dell Precision M90 laptop (Its a $3,000 laptop) with high end features. I purchased the Intel Pro/wireless 3945ABG network adapter - Mini-pci Express card, which connects internally. I was surpised to get such excellent wireless reception - 7 networks found, mostly from other houses in my neighborhood. I never get any disconnects, and from my Linksys router, I get excellent reception from anywhere in my apartment. This Intel wireless card is excellent. The only drawback is that the Intel CD which comes with the Intel wireless card has very outdated drivers. I suggest you go to the web and download the latest Intel drivers (instead of using the Intel CD).

This card and its drivers has taken my Sony Vaio and my internet experience to a new low. A disgraceful showing by Intel who simply can't fix their own problems. STEER CLEAR, you have been warned.
