A classic,
By Robert Rutherford (San Francisco) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Intellectual Property: Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights (Delmar Paralegal) (Paperback)
The work, written origionally for IP paralegals, trancends it's origional purpose and serves as a rational, readable introduction to IP. This books excellence has made it a standard for many years and it's quality remains undiminished.

A great IP text book,
By Blanca M. "Blanca" (Berkeley, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Intellectual Property: Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights (Paperback)
I got the first edition of this book because it was the required text for a course I took in UC Berkeley a number of years ago. I have been practicing IP law for about 10 years and I still use it as a quick reference (I also obtained the 2nd Edition). In my opinion this is a very well done book and an useful tool for someone who wants to have the overall picture of a complex issue.

Primer, No Less,

This review is from: Intellectual Property: Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights (Paperback)
A waste of paper is rather harsh. Yes, this book is not for the paralegal, but I found that it was a great primer for those that may be interested in some of the operation of law -- exactly who I am. I have no real desire to be a paralegal or more, nor do I want to study law in school, but this book is great in that I am presented with basic information in readable form, with no background in law. I give this four stars because it seems to advertise highly technical information, when it really isn't.

A Very Good Text for Paralegal Advanced IP Students,
By Reader from Washington, DC/New York "Reader" (Washington, DC/New York) - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Intellectual Property: Patents, Trademarks, and Copyrights (Paperback)
I was assigned this text in my Advanced Intellectual Property class. It was extremely interesting, with a huge amount of information. It is one of the few IP textbooks written for paralegals -- most are written for lawyers -- and I learned a tremendous amount. However, I recommend that paralegals who are completely new to IP law start with Deborah E. Bouchoux's "Intellectual Property" text for paralegals first, because Stim's book is definitely a more advanced text. Had I not read Bouchoux's introductory text first, I would have had a much harder time with Stim's text. I have put the Stim text on the recommended books list of the Association of Intellectual Property Paralegals (AOIPP), on the "IP Books" webpage at: http://aoipp.org/ip-books/ The only reason I gave the book four stars instead of five is because some sections of it need updating, in view of changes in U.S. Patent and Trademark Office forms changes, rules changes, etc. With regard to the criticism below that the book did not devote enough time to patent law -- the book devotes 95 pages to patent law -- two long chapters, but the bulk of the book was devoted to copyright and trademark law. There are jobs for trademark paralegals and copyright paralegals, but I would suggest that the author give patent law "equal time" in his next revision of the book. Despite this one criticism, I found the book very useful.

Books had some highlighting in it, but that was expected since I bought it used. The font is a little small for my lking, but I can still read it. Overall, it is a good textbook. I really like paperback books.

I purchased this book for a Intellectual Proerty class I am enrolled in. At this time, I have only read the first four chapters per the class assignment. Chapter 1 gives an overview of trade secrets, patents and trademark including copyrights. Chapters 2-4 have detailed information about copyrights--federal and state copyright laws, the rights of the author/creator and public regarding copyrightable works, examples on how copyright laws are applied by using real cases. The author has done an excellent preparing this book.

During the course of reading the chapters, you are given some material numerous times (in context) which I liked because this is all new to me and I had a lot of terminology to learn. The author does a good job of comparing the types of intellectual property as he goes along which makes it easier to keep their differences straight. As textbooks go, this one is easy to understand and well written.

Can a book be too full of information?,

This book while chocked full of information is written in a way that makes you want to give up after a few pages. If you can stand to keep reading or have to for school, make sure to have a highlighter handy for the relevant notes, if you can find them and peel them out of the mass of information.Honestly, this is my first book dealing with intellectual property so maybe it is just the subject matter. But even as interesting as IP is, this book makes me want to run screaming away or either zone out. It is like listening to a person who will not shut up and get to the point. My professor even makes fun of this book, so . . .

I want to first start off by saying that i am a college student who bought this book on amazon instead of the arm n leg bookstores. This book came on time and in the condition it said it was going to arrive in. I am planning on buying all my books for Law School on this site. You don't have to spend a thousand dollars on books to get good quality, all you need to know is that this website is basically the best way to buy any good you need, including college textbooks!!! I do not regret this purchase at all, if i only knew this website existed when i first started my undergrad years, i would have saved thousands of dollars all those years. I highly advise all college students to buy their textbooks, regardless of whether it is hard or soft covered, get it on here!!! Whether your still in your undergrad years or going on to any type of graduate school, you can't beat amazon.com. In this economy, you have to use amazon, if you don't, your'e going to be throwing out your extra needed cash at the bookstores!!!For Your Information: NEVER SELL YOUR COLLEGE BOOKS BACK TO ANY BOOKSTORE UNLESS YOU HAVE NO OTHER CHOICE, THEY BUY IT FOR REALLY CHEAP AND THEN SELL IT FOR AN ARM N A LEG!!! You need to be aware of this fact in uncertain economic times. To Stop digressing from my original point, just get all your books on here already!!!!!

ANOTHER GREAT BUYI have purchased many items through Amazon, from baby shoes to printers, and have yet to be disappointed. The (class) book I purchased arrived within the time-frame stated, and in the condition promised. The price I paid - amazing. When searching for items to purchase, I highly recommend Amazon. They always prove to be first rate in service, price, and professionalism. |
