5.0 out of 5 stars Very detailed - good for both new & experienced traders!
No much fluff here... Chick lays it all out on the line, explaining how to make, lose, and not lose your fortunes in futures. He will try to scare the timid/weak at heart beginners off in the beginning chapter, but after that it's all good. Personally, in following his learned from experience stretegies, I have been profitable. When I forget the "rules"...

I cannot believe the other reviews. Have any of you ever traded before? This has to be one of the worst trading books I've ever read. I've read hundreds and have an extensive library, as well as over 15 years trading experience.

He gives many ideas and suggestions of how to enter and exit trades based on SMR Charts, but nothing concrete because there are so many...

When I forget the "rules" taught in the book and play from the cuff eventually I find myself getting burned for half of what I've made, which is very frustrating, but part of the learning curve. I find myself re-reading sections of the book over-and-over trying to absorb into my cells the wisdom he professes - particularly pages 55-58 (Money Management) & pages 77-80 (Trading). Good value in this book, a lot more practical than many of the other older books out there or some of those from the "market gurus." Chick is a real trader like me, and that helps me relate/respect his experience and advice. Give it a go! Good luck trading.

I cannot believe the other reviews. Have any of you ever traded before? This has to be one of the worst trading books I've ever read. I've read hundreds and have an extensive library, as well as over 15 years trading experience.

He gives many ideas and suggestions of how to enter and exit trades based on SMR Charts, but nothing concrete because there are so many variations you could "try". Basically trade with the trend and "try" to buy a pullback. Any other book on swing trading would be better and more useful. This is just swing trading using SMR Charts and their indicators, though you can use your own similar indicators. This book is very expensive for something you can get out of any swing trading book, which would give you a lot more value and insight for your money. On money management, same thing, vague - not much more value than telling someone "don't trade too heavy" and to "go with your best guess".

You might notice that there is not one single endorsement from anyone on the back of the book. With someone described as a "top notch sought after money manager" and a "big time trader" doesn't it make you wonder why? Don't waste your money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Book!, January 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Intelligent Futures Trading (Hardcover)
I trade stocks and options at a hedge fund and feel that this is one of the best books that I have ever read on shorter-term trading--and I have read them all. If you want to look over the shoulder a trader who knows what he is doing, look no further.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally an honest approach to trading, April 5, 2000
This review is from: Intelligent Futures Trading (Hardcover)
What a breath of fresh air! Finally, an honest approach from an honest trader. No unbelievable claims or promises of a "perfect method". Very down to earth, which makes it very readable. I would recommend anyone that has an interest in trading read this book! There are many methods that would be profitable over the long haul, but how many people are disciplined enough to stick with the system ALL THE TIME. Very few in my exerience, including myself several times. If you want to read a book that has false promises and only makes the author rich, there are numerous other books available that serve only to help keep great campfires burning. This is not one of them! Money management section is a little vague and could be dangerous for new traders, but overall few books compare in my opinion. You will hear numerous times that great traders don't write books or share their techniques - they trade. Read this book and you just might disagree. Warning! Much of this book actually makes sense.

On page 4, this guy says, "And overall, though my trading career has shown many extended periods of extraordinary brilliance, the end results (at least at this moment) are that I have not been successful." Where does this guy get off writing this book? Why would anyone follow his advice?

5.0 out of 5 stars Futures trading, the intelligent way to trade the market, March 9, 2000
By
Kimberly (Stone Mountain, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Intelligent Futures Trading (Hardcover)
This book truly demonstrates a sound method to trading the futures market. The content is straigtforward, with no-nonsense. It was pretty intimidating at first the way he laid it out. If you have any reservations about trading futures then don't read this book. Incidentally, I would not recommend this book for beginners. I was introduced to futures trading by marketer Ken Roberts. Intelligent Futures trading is by far the superior method of trading. This is not to say I did not make money using Ken's method. However, if you want to stay in and win in this highly volatile game of futures trading, then this book is one for the ages.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding book on Trading, March 15, 2000
This review is from: Intelligent Futures Trading (Hardcover)
I have never traded Futures but bought this book for educational purposes. I think this is the best book on trading I've ever read. Stresses the psychological pitfalls a new trader will encounter when starting, then moves on to explain his approach to trading which involves simple moving averages and momentum techniques. A hard book to put down as the author reveals the fascinating world of trading the Futures Markets with his own unique approach to Momentum which basically involves trading the rallies and sell-offs of an established trend. The honest tone of this book sets it apart from so much of the trash that is being peddled by other writers (gurus). If you only buy one book on trading, make this the one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Picking the brain of a seasoned trader, May 3, 2000
By
This review is from: Intelligent Futures Trading (Hardcover)
This work is so important in the world of trading. Of all the traders I've studied over the years Chick Goslin's belief systems related to the market and trader psychology are right on the money. He writing style is humble and precise and you really feel he is holding nothing back. I believe his wisdom can enhance the skills of any level trader. Do yourself a financial favor and read and internalize his experience.

3.0 out of 5 stars Handy reference book with good background information, October 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Intelligent Futures Trading (Hardcover)
This book is full of the same old stuff that you need to hear about the trading business and investing, covering technical and fundamental analysis and charting. It also addresses tips, and ideas for investing and trading along with all the typical warnings. It's a bit out dated in all that I just mentioned. Even though it mentions the electronic age and computer trading, it speaks of everything in the context of pre-electronic age. The real solid value in this book however, is that it does go into great explanations about the derivative markets, how and why they came about, how and by whom they are used, and the relationships and effect they have on our personal financial and economic issues. The book also covers and provides great examples of the various calculations behind financial evaluations and transactions. It's obvious that this book was written by a financial pro that's been around the block several time, and not by some theoretical academian.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Trading Book, January 25, 2002
By
William F. McCready (San Diego, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Intelligent Futures Trading (Hardcover)
I have taken one of Chick's classes and automated his trading strategies for day trading the S&P's. After thousands of test on nearly every indicator and system I know, his is still the easiest to understand and very profitable. The system works on all time frames and allows you to predict a few bars ahead.
