This review is from: Intelligent Person's Guide to Christian Ethics (Continuums Icons) (Paperback)
This book is a good starting place for those trying to get a handle on how Christian ethics differ from the two other main schools of thought in our culture -- Utilitarianism and Kantian ethics.
It's a great introductory work, presenting an overview of conflicting views before laying out a Christian approach to ethics. What is particularly nice about this book is that it presents fairly complex positions in a way that is straight-forward enough for most college students to grasp. This book avoids a common problem among philosophers -- writing only for experts in a way that removes ethics and philosophy from the every day world we all live in. It takes a generous and thoughtful writer to distill complex ideas into a form that can be grasped by intelligent and interested people who are not experts in a particular field. McCoy is to be congratulated for doing so. |
