I recently ran cat 6 cable throughout our house, upgrading our home LAN to (wired) gigabit speed and (wireless) 802.11n. This new network replaced our old combination of 802.11g wireless and cat 5e cable. The cat5e cable wasn't installed that well, I must admit (as the installer). I'd run cables behind appliances, under and on top of baseboard molding, and through the floor in one instance.

This time I wanted a clean, professional installation. I spent a lot of time running cable through the attic and basement, drilling through joists, and fishing cable through walls. After doing all that work the last thing I wanted to do was wire up my own jacks. That's where these came in. I cut a hole in the drywall, fished the cable through hole, and had a professional-looking installation using this coupler, a low voltage old work bracket, and a single gang wall plate.

In two rooms I replaced the existing coaxial cable jack with a two hole wall plate, this coupler, and a keystone coax cable module. I've seen the latter called "F-pin", "F-type", and "F coupler". FYI, the bracket, wall plates, and coax connectors are all available at your local big box hardware store very cheaply. I didn't see any cat 6 couplers there, just cat 5e punchdown jacks.

I installed 3 of these around the house and they all work great. The computers at each spot all report a 1.0 Gbps connection.

First of all lets define what this product is. I'm an electrical engineer and I hope the following helps.

This device has 2 female Ethernet connectors - one at either end. So it is meant to join together two Ethernet cables (which almost always have male connectors on both ends). You can use it with CAT5, CAT5e or CAT6 cables since all share the same pin connections and use the same connector. (It is only the cable itself that differs between these different types of cables). So, quite simply, this coupler can be used to join together two ethernet cables to create a longer length. If you look at many of the reviews published here - people have done just that with this coupler and, not surprising, it worked perfectly.

However, this coupler ALSO fits a "keystone" wallplate. Notice in the picture the various latches etc on it. What that means is it will snap into a wall-plate with a "keystone" opening/hole (which are common enough on wallplates). So you can buy a wall plate with a "keystone" hole (opening), snap this coupler into place on the wall plate and then you take an Ethernet cable with pre-attached male plugs and plug it into the rear of the coupler. Now you have a wall plate with a female jack on the front and you can plug any standard Ethernet cable into this wall plate. Nice and simple, except, of course, that you have to fish the Ethernet cable through your walls, cut an opening in your wall and install a box for the wall-plate.

What is NOT to like.

1.) This type of coupler generally costs about 90 cents to $1.50 for just one (try monoprice) not $5.00.

2.) It assumes you are using pre-wired Ethernet cables - that means you are stuck with purchasing finished cat5e/6 cables of a FIXED length with connectors already installed.

Works as advertised. Female connector on both sides. Plug it into any standard keystone wallplate and you have a professional looking install. Connectivity tested on two units and works great.

I wanted a wired ethernet connection from my office router to my tv in the family room. This ethernet coupler fit nicely in a Leviton faceplate(leftover from another project) that I mounted on the wall close to the tv. I didn't have to deal with handling the delicate wire strands on another kind of coupler. This coupler accepts an RJ45 connector from a regular ethernet cable and is perfect for my setup.

Yeah, it does what its suppose to do. it connects two Ethernet cables/rj45's together. No problems here, just make sure you hear the click and they are snug.

Max length for normal rj45/cat6/ethernet is 400-500ft or so. past that you will have way to many connection and dropped signal issues.

Works as expected. I am using it with cat6 cables that were purchased with plugs at each end. Didn't have to learn the wiring configuration or buy a tool.

That is a great product which do a perfect job on what is made for. Just I give to it only couple stars, because it was very hard to get it fit to Leviton 40756-BW QuickPort Decora Plus Insert, 6-Port. Just it is too big and do not leave much space for another devices that I had to fit to the mentioned above device.

Not super sturdy, but it's reliable enough for the price. I connected some 50 foot cables with it to get ethernet speeds to my XBox and was very happy with the results.

I eventually replaced that arrangement with http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QZ0036/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_img_sol_7, but either one works fine.
