This is also a review about ear candeling in general (see the other very negative review). I have very poor ears. They always hurt, and keep my up at night. Ear candeling has changed that.

Furthermore, with regard to the vinal tube experiment: I don't know about that, but a better experiment could be to do your own ears over and over and see if the...

1.0 out of 5 stars Scam scam scam
I worked at a health food store where ear candles were some of our best sellers. People bought them by the dozens and swore they worked to the fullest extent.

I was curious and tried some with a friend. I also wanted to have experience with them for myself so I could better answer costumer questions. My friend and I each used two, one for each ear and each...

Furthermore, with regard to the vinal tube experiment: I don't know about that, but a better experiment could be to do your own ears over and over and see if the later candles have less gunk in them. If I wait a few months, there is lots of gunk in the candles. If I only wait a week, then there is no gunk. And of course there will be candle wax in the candles too, but it is different from ear wax, and you should be able to tell the difference.

1.0 out of 5 stars Scam scam scam, July 15, 2007

I worked at a health food store where ear candles were some of our best sellers. People bought them by the dozens and swore they worked to the fullest extent.

I was curious and tried some with a friend. I also wanted to have experience with them for myself so I could better answer costumer questions. My friend and I each used two, one for each ear and each candle had "gunk" in it. However, since we had left over candles I burnt one for fun since I quite liked the smell...

When I picked it up to dispose of it the same "gunk" fell out of the unburnt portion. Try it yourself if you don't believe me.

These are a scam.. Plain and simple, folks. Believe what you want, but in a "mind over matter" situation you'll feel better after using one only because you think it worked. However, the under lying issue is still there.

1.0 out of 5 stars ear candles are a hoax, February 4, 2006
This review is from: Intense Eucalyptus Beeswax Ear Candles (24 Pk.) (Health and Beauty)
This review is about ear candles in general. My wife and I both tried these candles as instructed. When done, we excitedly cut open the candles and saw copious amounts of what looked like ear wax. Days later I reconsidered the ear candles and couldn't convince myself of the results, despite seeing what I assumed must be ear wax in the dissected candle.

I bought another candle and conducted an experiment. I lit the candle on one end and placed the other end (which would normally go into your ear) into a section of vinyl tubing. Soon, smoke was pouring out of the tubing. Thinking that an open tube didn't accurately simulate the human ear canal, I bent off the tubing thereby sealing it. Once the candle had burned down I cut it open. Sure enough, the contents of the candle with tubing at the end was identical to the candle I had held to my ear; there was an ashy powder along with tough, brown chunks of wax. Since the contents of the candle without an ear attached to it matched the contents of the candle placed into an actual ear I can only conclude that the "ear wax" found in the cut-open candle does not come from your ear. It probably comes from the candle itself, but that's just a guess.

Here's another similar (but more medically tested) story: http://www.straightdope.com/classics/a5_098.html

5.0 out of 5 stars Beeswax ear candling, June 5, 2008
This review is from: Intense Eucalyptus Beeswax Ear Candles (24 Pk.) (Health and Beauty)
My son has had a problem with ear wax build up to the point where sounds are muffled we have tried washing out his ears and it helps, but he swears his ears are much better after candling and they feel better for months. I know there is some gunk when you are done but anyone could tell the difference between the brown thick gunk and the powdery light substance to know which is ear wax and which isn't.
