1.0 out of 5 stars Don't bother with the Kindle edition of this book!
This is a good book, but the Kindle version is almost worthless. The case studies and tables are in very small print that will not enlarge. These are critical components of this book that you will need a magnifying glass to read on the Kindle. All other text in the book will enlarge, but not these portions.

This book should be required reading for everyone, regardless of field or relationship status. If you encounter a friend, relative, or stranger with something on their mind, this book shows you the steps you can take to help that person find the solutions to their own problems, a skill we all have within us. I use the skills in this book as a psychology student, a parent, and someone in long-term relationships with family, friends, and loved ones. If you can't afford the new copy, find an old one. This book will improve how you connect with others tremendously!

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent method to present the basic interviewing/counseling skills, May 20, 2011
This review is from: Intentional Interviewing and Counseling: Facilitating Client Development in a Multicultural Society (with CD-ROM) (Paperback)
The authors of this text do a very good job of breaking down and presenting the basic skills of interviewing. Using their pyramid of micro skills, the student is presented the basic skills of ethics, cultural awareness and wellness. The wellness approach stresses the client's strengths rather than pathology which may exist. The supplements for both instructor and student are useful. Listening, summarizing, paraphrasing, encouraging, and confrontation are skills presented later in the book with both videos and examples in text available.

There are checklists, sample questions, outlines and an instructor manual available both in hard copy and e-book.

Highly recommended for introductory courses where interviewing is utilized. It has been described as useful by students from a wide range of majors.

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST for everyone! A great resource for therapist/counselors, August 8, 2008
By
zoineos (Northern California) - See all my reviews
I got this book as part of my counseling masters course (MFT) and I must say IT IS THE BOOK for therapist, business people or ANYONE who wants to improve how they communicate with others. My husband sometimes refers to it when he comes by friends who need help in the peoples skills (shy types). Even the most experienced communicator can learn new things! I was AMAZED by the examples, conceptualizations and just the wealth of information.

Book is great, but I NEVER got the CD! My class uses the CD ROM often and my book didn't come with one even though it said it did. Very irritating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basic skills manual, December 27, 2011
This review is from: Intentional Interviewing and Counseling: Facilitating Client Development in a Multicultural Society (with CD-ROM) (Paperback)
I used this book for my beginning counseling skills course and for the most part I found it pretty helpful. The print in the book is easy to read, and the vignettes included in each chapter make it an easy read. The assignments/review questions were very elementary, didn't provide much of a challenge.

I recently purchased this item because the title stated Intentional Interviewing and Counseling: Facilitating Client Development in a Multicultural Society (with CD-ROM)...with CD-ROM... Well upon receiving the product there is no CD-Rom included. Book is in listed shape and shipped fast... Just all the contents listed are not included. Very unhappy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Did well, September 21, 2011

I think this was a good company to buy from.... I asked for average and got average; I paid for the cheapest 'very good', 'like new', 'new' books and they were all accurate to their description, and arrived in the allotted time.
