5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, sexy, tasteful, and tasty too!
This is one of my favorite cookbooks, both for the recipes and the gorgeous photos. 3.0 out of 5 stars Gifts for Brides
I've given this cookbook as gifts to friends at bridal showers/bachelorette parties. Both have loved it, however, I have not gone back to either to see if it worked or if the recipes were good. It's just a fun gift to give.

This is one of my favorite cookbooks, both for the recipes and the gorgeous photos. The black bean, chicken and asparagus enchiladas and the french toast are perfect do-ahead ahead dishes for when you want to spend time with your sweetie instead of in the kitchen; I've made both ahead of time and popped them in the oven at the last minute, with great success (and yes, the foods do work...at least in my experience!). The photos are very sexy, but very tasteful. I especially liked the stories from couples who tested the recipes. This would make a great bridal shower gift.

5.0 out of 5 stars Culinary Seduction!, January 15, 2001
This review is from: InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook (Hardcover)
From the deliciously entertaining text to the tantalizing recipes, you will be seduced into reading this cookbook. There are 85 couple-tested recipes, humorous notes to make you smile and even suggestions for music selections with dinner.

Chocolate, asparagus, chiles, coffee, basil, grapes, strawberries, honey, artichokes, black beans, oysters, rosemary, edible flowers, pine nuts, avocados and figs are all displayed on the body in a tasteful way. Yes, the models are only wearing food!

The comments by couples who tested the recipes are perhaps the most personal part of the book. The words melt into the pages so easily and effortlessly. The sumptuous collection of recipes are erotic, inspirational and enticing. The recipes may encourage a playful, erotic, sensual or romantic response.

The "chocolate fig bundles" recipe looked tempting, so I set out to make them. The satiny sheets of phyllo pastry smothered in butter told me one thing, these were going to be heavenly. I filled figs with the almond/chocolate mixture and wrapped them up snuggly in the pastry. They only took 13 minutes to bake.

To serve these heady treats, I piped the whip cream into five little hearts all around the two dinner plates. I used sliced almonds mixed with more grated chocolate, confectioners' sugar and colored sugar to sprinkle over the whipped cream. The pastries were set in the middle of the hearts and served while still warm. I also drizzled these pastries with a little honey. My husband didn't leave a crumb!

For those interested in taking things a bit further than cooking, there is a section on recommended reading, advice on selecting aromatherapy candles, sources for edible massage oils and information on how to make specific stages of any relationship into a reason to cook up something satisfying. If you are still hungering for more information, you can explore the list of books and food Web sites included for your pleasure.

You will want to try the "chocolate hazelnut truffles," asparagus frittata," "honey-peppered salmon," "espresso cream," "grilled scallops with basil and lavender essence," "grape sorbet," and "Cornish hens with strawberry glaze."

After reading this cookbook, I seriously doubt that you will ever view the grocery store in the same way. As you walk down the coffee isle, you will inhale the intoxicating aromatic coffee bean aroma deeply with your eyes closed. Intercourses will make you more aware of the sensual pleasures of food. Purchase this book for the one you love, for those you know are in love and for those you want to fall in love. All I have to say is: "Yes, Yes, Yes.....buy this book and share it with someone you love!" This is a book for the kitchen, coffee table and for reading in bed, preferably with someone you love.

5.0 out of 5 stars One Lusciously Delicious Cookbook !, January 9, 1998
This review is from: InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook (Hardcover)
I bought the book for my man and WOW! I practically drooled all over the book as he told me what the recipes were...... Strawberry White Chocolate Truffles..? Divine foods were in this book. They had recipes for everthing from Asparagus, Avocado, and Pine Nuts. Fruits, Veggies....... anything you can think of. The pictures were subtly erotic..... nudes with a torso of Oysters, hands in Honey, and even a pair of legs holding a Champagne bottle. There are even little excerpts from others who have used the book. And this is NOT only for purposes of making love. The recipes can be used for dinner parties with family, friends, or even a dish for the office party. This book is good not only to spice up your "love" life, but can add zing to your social life, because your friends will be dying to know where you got the recipe! Just think of the conversations this would start! So buy the book, go grocery shopping, and pamper yourself with good eating, with or without significant other.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful, entertaining cookbook and a great gift idea., September 27, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook (Hardcover)
I bought my copy of this book last year and found it to be so delightful that I have been giving it as gifts for weddings, housewarmings, birthdays, etc. The best thing about this cookbook is that miraculously it is beautiful, sensual and actually has fabulous recipes. I have so many beautiful cookbooks that do not contain a dozen good recipes. This book is the exception. Not only is is worthy as a conversation piece or coffee table book it is filled with charming and delicious recipes and ideas. As to it's aphrodisiac qualities, what could be a better libido boost than beautiful, delectible palate pleasers as a prelude to passion?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Movable Feast!, May 6, 2000
This review is from: InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook (Hardcover)
I bought a copy of this as a gift from one of my bridesmaids, who is also getting married this summer. I went to the bookstore for a different aphrodisiac cookbook, but I spotted the cover of this one, and after flipping through it, was compelled to buy it. I'm going to get a copy of this for me and my new hubby. We both love to cook for each other, and just talking about the foods in the book were enough to excite us. It's a beautiful visual feast. The photography is gorgeous and is a lovely compliment to the recipes and sweet stories from people who have used them. There are foods you would expect, like chocolate, honey, strawberries and oysters, and lots of things you might never think of, like artichokes, asparagus, black beans, and pine nuts. There are even massage oil recipes, and other interesting extras. We've tried a few of the simpler ones, like the Mexican hot Chocolate, and they were great. I'm really looking forward to trying some of the more complicated items (three words: black russian cake). It was definately worth what we spent as a gift, and it's definately worth buying a second time. I highly recommend it.

I bought this book for my wife as part of a birthday present. The other part was Barry White's Greatest Hits. We put on the CD, opened the cookbook and made the spicy shrimp dish. We fed each other, the spices raised our body temperatures, and we slipped to the flooor.......

Quite a book. Results may vary.

5.0 out of 5 stars This book is an exciting journey through food and intimacy!, September 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook (Hardcover)
I bought this book in order to prepare a sensual suprize for my husband last Valentine's Day. I made an entire meal using the cookbook. I believe that aphrodiasics are mostly psychological - but why not add that ingredient to your love life? -It can't hurt. The pictures in the book are...inspiring as well as the stories included with the recipes. I would recommend this book for anyone who enjoys the art of romance. Most of the recipes are very easy to prepare!! This book is one I turn to again and again for romantic inspiration.

4.0 out of 5 stars great recipes, sometimes campy discussion of love, March 7, 2002
This review is from: InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook (Hardcover)
As far as recipes go, Martha Hopkins and Randall Lockridge's "Intercourses" is top notch. This book is full of consistently great recipes. It is probably the best book I've ever read for finding great ways to use Rosemary.

The recipes are listed under the following headings: chocolate, asparagus, chiles, coffee, basil, grapes, strawberries, honey, artichokes, black beans, oysters, rosemary, edible flowers, pine nuts, avocado, libations, and figs. Particularly strong sections are the aforementioned Rosemary, the section on Strawberries and the one on Honey. The best recipes I've tried so far are the easy strawberry empanadas, and the pasta with rosemary cream sauce.

The photography is outstnding and (surprisingly) rather tasteful. My quibble is with the all too campy final section of the book. We are definately dealing with the "eros" form of love here (which is quite dangerous without knowledge of "agape" love).

All in all, "Intercourses" is a very solid cookbook. Despite the flashes of camp, it is very nicely put together--and it features a ton of good recipes. I recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sensuous for all senses, January 8, 1999
This review is from: InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook (Hardcover)
When you see a cover as intriguing as this one, you do a double- even triple-take: Is that a woman clothed only in strawberries?!?

But the cover isn't the only intriguing part of this book. Intercourses is soothing to all your senses. The vivid, artful photographs tease your eyes. The beautiful smells of all the aromatic recipes seem to drift from the page. And the sensuous, unusual recipes awake your taste buds. You even find yourself stroking the amazing pictures as you browse through this book.

All five senses are brought to life with this book, but it also titillates your mind. You learn that everyday foods like coffee and asparagus can be sesuous and erotic. Readers give you their advice and tell of their experiences with aphrodisiacs.

Unlike the usual cookbook, Intercourses contains, unusual, but fun foods you will relish in preparing. Intercourses makes preparing food a romantic, joint-venture for couples.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best cooking for 2 book I've ever used, August 16, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: InterCourses: An Aphrodisiac Cookbook (Hardcover)
This is absolutely my favorite cookbook! It's inspirational- so easy to use, and best of all, the recipes serve 2, not an army like most recipes- so even if you're cooking for yourself- it's a great resource. I've made 6 of the recipes-some again and again, and have not once been dissapointed. I bought it for a friend as a joke because she had this incredible pasta salad that she would bring to parties, and hmmm.... always seemed to "meet" someone.. The joke was that the salad was an aphrodisiac. After she used the book a few times -she recommended it back to me- and the rest is history- I fully plan to make each and every recipe in it. A must have- a great gift!
