Book Description

The most widely-used text on the topic of collaboration, Interactions is a guide for preprofessionals and professionals to help them understand and participate effectively in their interactions with other school professionals and parents.  It addresses collaboration as a style, with accompanying knowledge and skills, that guides practices in many education efforts.

Interactions provides a cutting-edge look at how teams of school professionals– special educators, general educators and related services professionals–can effectively work together to provide a necessary range of services to students with special needs. As a result, future teachers learn how to collaborate with school professionals and families to help special education students who are more often being placed in general education settings.

New to this Edition!

  • Chapter on collaborating with Families--Back by popular demand is a full chapter on family collaboration (chapter 8) which details the role teachers can and should play with families of students with disabilities.

4.0 out of 5 stars An outstanding practical guide for teachers to work together, June 10, 1999
For any teachers who want to improve their effectiveness in teams and decrease frustrations when teams don't work, this is a useful resource. The chapters touch on the real issues that affect schools and keep the adults in schools from working effectively together. In other words, all the unmentioned political and interpersonal foolishness that nobody teaches you about in teacher school are laid right out there, along with suggestions on how to deal effectively with problem situations. A real must-read for teachers who value collaboration.

If you want to be a better colleague and develop the skills to deal effectively with other school professionals, this book can help you. If you are a special education teacher frustrated by resistance from general ed teachers, this book can help you. If you want to stop wasting time at team meetings, this book can help you.

Much of the same information repeated throughout the chapters. Also would like to see chapters shifted around. didn't think the order was appropriate or logical.

2.0 out of 5 stars Boring, hard to read, September 23, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Interactions: Collaboration Skills for School Professionals (6th Edition) (Paperback)
This textbook is difficult to read and bores me. They could have said the same things in simpler terms and much quicker. It seems to be very repetitive, but I have already taken a class like this one with a much better text.
