This review is from: Interactive Approaches to Second Language Reading (Cambridge Applied Linguistics) (Paperback)
Being interested in reading processes, especially in learned languages, this book came to me with some potential. It was potential largely fullfilled.
"Interactive Approaches" deals a lot with the theory, such as various models for reading, (the Stanovich Model gets a fair airing), but that is also counter-balanced with a great deal on the implications that are there for teaching. There is also some discussion on the reasearch that has been performed on readers and what the results have shown. The book is a series of essays written by various people in the linguistics field, and they have some very interesting things to contribute. In short, I have found their ideas and comments of immense value in my own studies. This would make a good reference book, though I am not sure anyone would want to read it from cover to cover. It is a good book that gets you into some of the more contemporary research on reading processes. |
