Editorial Reviews

Review

"Full of practical tips, this book doesn't try to over-awe you with all the features, but rather to take you from familiarising yourself with the basics to a point where the IWB is integrated into your teaching in a seamless and stress-free way. This is an extremely useful addition to a school library for teachers and learning assistants - in fact it does what it says on the cover!" The TES Online, January 2006. "shows you how to make the most of the software that comes with your interactive whiteboard...general advice on choosing and setting up your IWB, and on managing your pupils' learning" Child Education, ICT Focus Issue, July 2006

2.0 out of 5 stars Not useful for those who know how to use the computer, September 7, 2008
This review is from: How to Use an Interactive Whiteboard Really Effectively in Your Primary Classroom (Paperback)
The entire first section of this book is an attempt to convince the reader that an interactive whiteboard is useful...something that I see as irrelevant as any reader purchasing this book either must or wants to use an interactive whiteboard and therefore does not need convincing. For a relatively short book (with 131 pages including the index and appendices), a great deal of time is "wasted" on this argument.
Additionally, this book is geared primarily to teachers with little to no experience with computers and while helpful to this group of individuals, it does not provide much new information to those who are already familiar with common programs such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
There is little information specific to the the different types of Interactive Whiteboard (Smartboard or ActivePrimary Software) and instead instructs readers to refer to the manufacturer's instruction manual for instructions on how to orient the board or manipulate it. If I had realized that it had so little information on how to operate the Smartboard, I would have just sought out an instruction manual instead!

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: How to Use an Interactive Whiteboard Really Effectively in Your Primary Classroom (Paperback)
I have a Smartboard in my room and was hoping this book would help give me some pointers. Unfortunately, it was useless as Smartboards and Whiteboards do not run on the same software nor do they have the same tools.
