Shipped fast - 2 days. Packaged well. When installed the fan blades touched the sidewall. It only took a torx T20 screw driver to loosen the set screw and barely move the fan. Install was very simple. The company also included the necessary gasket. I searched the internet and found prices ranging from $179-$493 for the same unit. If you need one this is the place to buy it.

awoke the morning of the great blizzard of '10 to a house that was 50 degrees. the thermostat was not set to 50 degrees. no surprised as i had heard some painful screeching coming from the furnace the night before. the 6 year old furnace. it's common to hear 6 year olds screech, but furnace, notsomuch.

seeing as how we wouldn't be able to get out in the 30" of snow, and no HVAC repairman would be coming in, i went to task to find out where the furnace was errant. i would not recommend playing in your gas furnace if you don't have some mechanical skill and understanding of combustion. and while i do, i probably still shouldn't have cracked it open.

it was easy to isolate the problem, as there was only the blower motor where the screeching had occurred the night before. the main fan worked fine while the blower flywheel would barely rotate. i was able to extract the unit, losing most of the threadbare fiberglass gasket in the process. the gasket proved to be the biggest headache as i went about cleaning and oiling the ball bearings on the motor. i suspect the culprit was getting the basement finished a couple years ago and drywall dust getting into every unsealed basement orifice, including the current patient. the 3-in-1 oil let the motor turn a bit easier, and a quick spin with the axle in a drill ensured it was well-distributed. i re-connected wiring, vent pipe, and suction tube and the motor worked for 2 more days.

i ordered this replacement part, but due to delivery issues (read: more snow) didn't get this unit for about a week. during which i had to go about the whole pull-oil-install process again. then another time. finally an HVAC buddy recommended i use a bit of motor oil as it would be 1) more viscous and 2) 3-in-1 had detergent in it (who knew?). that worked for a good 4 days until i got this unit. hooray.

long and short: this unit worked, had all required parts (screws and a MUCH better gasket) and was the cheapest unit i found by far. is there anything amazon doesn't sell? and now my family can rest easy knowing we're warm, and they don't have to hear dad cursing at mechanical devices.
