I installed this unit in my home on one of my two home telephone lines. This system enables one to answer the front door from any location on their property or home served by either a corded or cordless house phone when the 'distinctive ring tone' announces someone depressing the doorbell button on the door intercom unit. I use a cordless phone as it is ideal for those backyard patio barbeque/pool events where I can answer the front door via my home cordless phone without leaving the barbeque/pool area! I installed one of these unit for an elderly neighbor who lives alone and she can now to talk to anyone at her front door without having to open the door.
One cool feature is an 'audio monitoring' function whereby one hits the flash button on their house phone and can monitor sounds in the vicinty of each door intercom unit. This is useful in home offices that don't have a visual view of the entrance door(s) where a door intercom is located and enables one to monitor the area very easily with a speaker phone on mute.
My house has a CCTV system where I can both see people at an entrance door (co-located with the door intercom) and speak with them via the house phone for added security. I puchased my unit with the optional 8 ring chip which provides additional time to answer the 'distinctive ring tone' when this system rings the connected house phone line.
Installation was easy and the documentation clear. I used an external double gang stainless steel box for the aluminum doorbell intercom unit which provides adequate space for the minimal wiring and a weather shield for the speaker/microphone and button. I did call the manufacturer with a technical support question and was able to get an answer in 'real time' which was very helpful.
