Thermometer was in new packaging but when I opened it the face was scratched. Stuck it in a mixture of ice and water, which should read 32°. It read 45°. Apparently it was a defective unit that someone returned. Then Interdynamics just repackaged and resold it without checking it out.

For the price paid it's not worth my time and shipping cost to return it. All I can do is recommend that you not do business with these people.

I should have read the other reviews. I bought one and returned it (at Amazon expence). At ice water temp, it read 47 deg. F. At 75 deg. (accurate electronic thermometer) it read 82. It's was worthless.

The item I received is not the one pictured. This one is "no name" and totally out of sync. compaired with 2 other a/c meters. The face has a worn place on it. The holder reads "do not leave in roast/meat" (this is a/c thermometer???) I discovered these problems on the last day of my 30 day return window. So now I have a $8.00 junk item. DO NOT BUY !!!

There's nothing too special to write about this... it's a simple, functional, dial thermometer. I am writing a review because it seems that many people do not know how to use this product--they claim that it is not accurate. This thermometer, like virtually all a/c thermometers is designed to be calibrated by the user (otherwise they would never maintain their accuracy in a shop environment). You must place the probe/stem in a medium (air, water, etc) of known temperature and adjust it to read the correct temperature (hold the stem with a wrench, by the provided flats, and turn the dial). Ice water is a common medium used for calibration, because people assume that it is exactly 32 degrees, however, ice water is often closer to 40 degrees, so this is not an accurate method. I find it is best to calibrate it to room temperature in air, compared to an accurate indoor thermometer (but be sure not to let your body heat influence the reading).

The first one didn't work. It would not go below 40 degrees and I was unable to get a good calibration that covered the whole scale. The second one was bad also. If you calibrated it for the upper scale, it was inaccurate on the lower scale. Vice versa if you calibrated it on the lower scale. Yes, it has a single point calibration ability. The lens on the second one was scuffed making it difficult to read. Pure China junk. I replaced it with one made in the USA that I got from VWR Scientific. It was a lot more expensive, but is dual scale and a 3 inch face. It is accurate to within 1 degree on the entire scale which is -41 to 120 degrees F. Avoid this piece of junk.

First, this product does not even deserve ONE star! I would not give a star... not even a quarter of a star! This product is WORTHLESS! I should've read the reviews first before purchasing the product. I purchased it then read the product. When it came in, the face had scratches and the numbers are not visible because of scratches. Just like others said the temperature will show about 10 degree higher. I have a digital thermometer I use for coffee and when I bake something - and yep it's off about 10 +/- degree!! I'm returning this tomorrow... DO NOT BUY!

I was stupid and purchased 3 for my husbands business and none of these thermometers work. Each one is a different temp at when set in ice of about 32 degrees. One said 50 degrees, other at 53 degrees and the last one at 60 degrees. Couldn't be calibrated either. They are total JUNK and should not be allow to sell these on Amazon. We should also get our shipping cost back because these are used. Each one had a mark or scuff on the face of it. Unbelievable to say the least...total JUNK. Don't purchase these.
