This is one of the best and most helpful books I've found on interfaith weddings. The samples are very useful and well thought out. I recommend this to anyone planning an interfaith wedding as it has become my favorite resource.

This is a great book for interfaith couples who want to plan a ceremony that incorporates both of their backgrounds. I highly recommend it.The sample ceremonies are very helpful!

I found this book to be a good starting point for planning my interfaith wedding. It gave equal dignity to both Jewish and Christian faiths, unlike some other books which want to emphasize one to the detriment of another. My officiants found the book helpful too.

A good reference, but by no means complete,

Skip the intro. Skip the blah. Go straight to the sample ceremonies.Whether you are interfaith or not, it is difficult to plan a complicated ceremony. Choosing what elements of each faith to put in, how religious to get, how to maintain balance between faiths, how not to offend anyone... how to choose? (despite what [...] said, being considerate of each other's family's is important... if you want to form a relationship with them at all.) What this book offers that is useful, are several ceremonies of different interfaith combinations: priest/rabbi, JP/rabbi, etc. You get to read and pick what you like, see how other couples combined, and decide what you think works. I agree with [...] that some of the ceremonies are cheesy, but hey, it takes all types. My fiance and I just rolled our eyes and moved on. I planned my ceremony using this book, Devon Lerner's book, and [the internet] for searching for quotes. I found Devon's book slightly more useful as it organizes by section all the different options for readings, ie., all 5 variations on the 7 blessings in one section for easy comparison. Devon's book is also more useful for learning about general trouble spots with interfaith weddings, marriages, and life.

ceremonies are too tacky,

The ceremonies decribed in this book are just too tacky for most people. The involve having the officiant give a speech about how Judaism and Christianity complement each other, while the Jewish parner recites the Lord's Prayer and the Chrisitan partner recites the Shma. Ugh. These ceremonies emphasize the couples' differences more than the marriage. Instead, I would recommend "celebrating interfaith marriages" by Devon Lerner. Her sample ceremonies seem more like real weddings.

The examples in this book were thought provoking to an extent although it did nto include a Jewish ceremony performed by a rabbi only.
I would have liked to have seen more examples of traditions from different religions (definitions of things like chuppah, why we light a unity candle and when it started), how you can incorporate traditions in to the ceremony when you are writing it, etc...

Good ideas and very balanced for Christian and Jewish Faiths,

I was a little hesitant to get this book after reading the other reviews, but I thought this book was very helpful to creating our wedding ceremony. It gave many different interpretations for traditions, that I am sure one of the interpretations would be favorable to either faith. The translations to some of the Jewish readings made sense and would create a beautiful wedding ceremony.

This book was tremendously helpful in planning our interfaith wedding with a rabbi & episcopal priest (Jewish groom, Catholic Bride). Other books are ok, but we used this one the most, cover to cover. We did have a hard time finding an interested & available Catholic priest to co-officate, but this book helped us approach the topic as horoughly and respectfully as we could, and our officiants (who were open & willing to learn) also appreciated this book. The best part of the book is the many sample ceremonies, with the exact scripts written out. The beautiful sample vows really helped us create & personalize our own. They even have some examples of music & readings, along with both religious and non-denominational prayers & blessings. There are some cheesy bits, but then again, most all wedding ceremonies have cheesy bits. While you can probably get it cheaper on Amazon, I highly reccommend purchasing this book via dovetailinstitute.org (the publisher) to support their excellent interfaith programming directly. Plus, you should keep your copy always, and not sell it. Either way, definately visit & support dovetailinstitute.org for more great resources for other parts of your marriage & interfaith family. (No, I don't work for them!)
