5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent adapter for Speedlites & modifiers
I use several of these to set up Speedlites on lightstands, with and without modifiers, for on-location photography, off-camera flash, reception lighting, etc. The Speedlite slides into the top of the adapter, and the modifier slides into the hole in the top half. It adjusts easily and swivels so that you can adjust the angle. It fits onto every lightstand I own...

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay for light weight modifiers.
This is a nice light weight item if you are using light weight modifiers with your off camera flash, such as those by Honl or Lumiquest.

However it is not strong/sturdy enough for anything heavier than light weight, and a cover piece fell off the side of one after only a couple of uses. Definitely not recommend for anything heavier than a small softbox or...

I use it primarily with a Canon Speedlite 580EXII and a Westcott 30" square softbox.

For heavy duty or even constant use I would recommend a metal umbrella holder such as the Bogen - Manfrotto Swivel Umbrella Adapter (Lite-tite) Replaces:2905 also available from Amazon.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent cheap adapter....umbrella mount not angled??, December 28, 2011
This review is from: Interfit Strobies Umbrella Holder with Shoe Adapter (Electronics)
For a beginning photographer, this is a decent umbrella swivel for the price. I picked up a couple for around $20 each when I first got into lighting, and they are still holding together after regular use. The only strange thing about them, is the hole where you mount the umbrella is not angled as it should be. When you put a speedlite in the cold shoe, it points toward the top of the umbrella, instead of the center as it should? Not a huge problem, just odd. Also, the cold shoe is pretty cheap, and both eventually had to be replaced!

Eventually I upgraded to a metal Manfrotto 026 Swivel for about $30, topped with a Frio ENLFRC1A Cold Shoe which is much more secure, and will last a whole lot longer!

Inexpensive and durable (although plastic), this device works great to hold my 580exII speedlights in lots of positions. Mounts onto any light stand easily and securely. For the money, and with care, this product will serve you well for a long time.

5.0 out of 5 stars FANTASTIC!, December 31, 2010

I bought this one last minute to replace a broken one and I love this one better than the one I bought from B&H! It's durable and flexible. It grabs on to the light stand with ease and holds without wobbling. the angles are great, holds an umbrella nicely. I use it on a couple of different light stands and it also works pretty cool by itself (I pop the angle to a 90 degree and it becomes a "foot"). Great product!

1.0 out of 5 stars large, modular, a bit awkward, November 20, 2010

This bracket is nearly twice the mass of some similar adapters I use. The weight adds to stability but the materials aren't so heavy that it's going to tip your lights over.

The same size and shape of hole used to mount the bracket on a light stand it on the top of the adapter; a modular nib (with the two different tripod threads on each end) is used to attach the cold shoe adapter. I wish that two of those nibs had been included so that both a cold shoe can be attached and the bracket mounted on a tripod, if needed.

The same type of hole also runs parallel to the floor, perpendicular to the vertically-aligned cold-shoe-mounting space, but also in that upper area. This allows versatility in orientation of the nib, should a 90 degree configuration be needed. All of these holes (two on the top half, one on the bottom) can be tightened down using the knobs seen in the product photo.

The umbrella shaft hole is in the top half of the unit, allowing the strobe and umbrella to move together. This is fairly standard, but some similar adapters on Amazon don't have that functionality.

The long handle at the mid joint makes for very quick and easy angle adjustments, and (though light-duty in materials) seems to be respectably built.

UPDATE: (after a month of use)

The part of the clamp that attaches to the light stand is too big: it doesn't tighten down onto a standard light stand. I went to a hardware store and replaced the plastic screw with a slightly longer phillips machine screw that fit. Now I need to bring a small screwdriver with me when using this adapter.

Probably better to pass on this one.
