From the Back Cover
Rabindranath Maharajs stories capture the whiplash emotions of immigrants excitement, nostalgia, hope, terror, the self-consciousness of the outsider. But, profoundly sympathetic as he is towards his characters, Maharaj is alert to the human frailties they carry with them wherever they go. His irreverence strikes Trinidad and Canada, Christianity and Hinduism, Frederictons miniature order and Torontos trackless suburbs with equal vigour.
