5.0 out of 5 stars Int. Alert is an excellent journey in faith and wisdom.
Intermarriage Alert is a wealth of wisdom, faith, and strength in developing heightened respect for the separate Divine missions of Jews and non-Jews. It strongly presents the timeless relevance of the ancient biblical events and our world around us. The logic and analysis breakthrough to a core of clarity. 3.0 out of 5 stars Primarily a religious perspective of intermarriage

3.0 out of 5 stars Primarily a religious perspective of intermarriage, December 23, 2001

This review is from: Intermarriage Alert (Hardcover)
Intermarriage Alert gives the reader primarily a religious perspective on the topic of intermarriage. The author does a good job in the first half of the book of explaining why intermarriage is against the teachings and sensibilities of Judaism. The second half of the book focuses more on practical concerns and sociological issues. While not a scholarly work in either regard the author does make her point. The author is strongly against intermarriage and this book is clearly an attempt to prevent such unions before they occur. The author wisely takes care not to denegrate non-Jews or "non-observant Jews", which would probably alienate the readers. I have to comment on the target audience for this book; I would think for an orthodox, highly observant individual who obeys the torah this book would simply be a review of beliefs already held without too much new information, just some perspective. A non-Jew or non-observant Jew who does not appreciate the torah may find the extended religious references not relevant. This book will be of most interest to a conservative or reform Jew who has some appreciation for scripture but is facing the possibility of intermarriage. Overall, a fairly good religious arguement against intermarriage with a little sociology sprinkled in.

It strongly presents the timeless relevance of the ancient biblical events and our world around us. The logic and analysis breakthrough to a core of clarity. The message of the book is: Jews and non-Jews shouldn't marry each other because it contradicts G-d's special mission for the Jewish people. The eternal truth of this message is presented in a clear logical method.
