With a little effort and patience, it's easy to set these to an exact time (within about a minute).

(1) Insert a red pin to shut off the timer at a round hour, about an hour or two ahead of the current time. (If you're doing this at 2:30, for example, set it to shut off around 4:00.)
(2) Advance the wheel past the current time, so the timer thinks it's something like 3:30 or 3:45.
(3) Wait for the timer to shut off, and then immediately unplug it.
(4) Plug the timer back in at exactly the time you set it for (4:00 in this example).

At this point it should retain the correct time until the next time you move the timer, have a power outage, or need to reset the clock for daylight saving time. In my experience the various pin slots on the timer are accurate to within about a minute, and the timer itself might lose or gain as much as a minute per month. But that's still much better precision than you can get without this technique.

I bought the special where you get four in a pack. It's very easy to set up and use. Only drawback is if electricity goes, all your timings are off by the duration of the outage.

However, after a couple weeks one stopped working. This wasn't so much of a setback for me as I was only using 3 of the 4 at the time. I just took the green & red hooks and used them on one of the other timers. This allowed me to add an extra on/off setting for that timer.

This little timer works just as it is supposed to. Easy set up. Select off and on times and it does the job.

Seems to work well, fairly easy to set-up. It does get very hot while plugged in.

Not much to say. Works well. Has 2 on-off settings (use green for on, red for off), manual toggle switch, simple dial.

NOTE: Only supports 2 prong plugs. It does NOT have the third (ground) plug.

I've had the Intermatic TIMER for many years and it has worked very reliably for me. I set it to turn on and turn off the lamp in the morning. It automatically turns on the lamp when I wake up and turns off the lamp after I leave for work, so I don't have to worry about leaving the lights on unnecessarily.

It comes with 4 pins -- 2 green and 2 red. The green pins turn on the lamp (or any electrical device plugged into the unit) and the red pins turn it off. To work the timer, the time will have to be set by rotating the dial. Next, Find the point on the dial for the desired time the device should be turned on and push the green pin in. Similarly, place the red pin at the desired time.

If you don't need precision, the Intermatic works very well. If precision is important, get the digital version of the Intermatic timer.

I have used this brand and simular model for many years. Easy to set up, work great, the only thing to be aware of is that since they are mechanical, they will eventually wear out after 3 or so years, but the price is so cheap, buy them by the dozen!

I save 30% in my electric bills thanks to this simple yet effective appliance...and it only costed me 6 bucks...JUST GREAT!

After about 3 months, the timer failed to turn on at the programmed times for the 2 table lamps connected to it . Then the bypass thumb wheel on the top of the timer goes off 30 minutes after turning it on. I would never buy another Intermatic product.

This model replaced an eight or ten-year old Intermatic timer, and it will probably last equally as long. For light-duty applications, this timer is recommended.
