Metal ... it says METAL people,

This review is from: Intermatic LT13 Malibu Low Voltage Metal Three Tier 7-Watt Landscape Light, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
You all bought the cheaper version of the product and are ripping on the metal version. I have these lights in my yard and they have worked for 4 yaers without fail... my ONLY complaint is that the caps occasionally blow off.... other than that, I love them, they have worked flawlessly, still look new and light, without fail, every evening!!!

I have over 2 dozen installed just under 2 years. More than half are suffering some kind of failure. Most have the plastic stake broken. Some have the middle plastic "joint" sheared. Several more have the third "tier" broken off. Several more have electrical connector failures.
The stake failure was so bad, I actually bought replacement stakes (6 for $9!) direct from Intermatic. Their current exploded parts drawing had a different ID, than the one supplied WITH THE ACTUAL PRODUCT. We had to work our way through that issue as well. The charged me, refusing to accept that the plastic is too brittle, thus under warranty. As I re-installed 2 of the 6 replacement stakes, they too sheared off! Brand new parts that failed. I purchased these to replace the ultra cheap plastic Toro lights I had. They lasted over 15 years, and the only thing that ever failed was the clear plastic lenses over the bulbs. They degraded from ozone/UV and cracked/shattered. I should have simply bought new lenses from Toro. All that I currently own (I have already thrown at least 3 away)are going back to Home Depot for full credit. Avoid the pain of a return! Incidentally, I live in far Eastern LA, so this isn't a case of hard soil or even harder winters... They are simply JUNK! If I could, I would have given a ZERO STAR rating...

These little landscape lights are not expensive. They are mostly plastic, which is good and bad. They will not corrode like metal lights, but they may deteriorate in the summer sun. Only time will tell. But then everything deteriorates in the Houston summer heat and humidity.
These lights are not very sturdy. If someone kicks one or falls on one you can bet it will break easily. And yes, if you push too hard while driving the stake into the ground something may break. I warned you! I recommend buying a few spares, just in case. I bought 36 of these to replace metal lights that I bought about four years ago. The old metal stakes rotted away in the ground and the old lights corroded so badly that I was embarrassed for visitors to see them. These new lights look quite nice. No more embarrassment! One caveat: these lights come with little "quick clamps" that slice into your power cable to make the power connection. I don't use those. I cut them off and use regular wire nuts to connect everything. Then I fill the wire nuts with silicon caulk to keep water out. As a result my connections will last many years. If you don't do this the copper wires will quickly corrode.

I bought these lights several years ago and have replaced with new ones over and over. Now I am throwing all away and getting something that isn't just throwing money down the drain. Intermatic should be real proud of this piece of junk. I also have the 600 watt tranformer (same brand) and it has worked flawlessly for many years now. Great product.

Low quality lights,

The lights are of very low quality, breaks easily, wind rips the cap off and rings just falls off after some time.
Not recommended.

I actually bought several sets of these for my front yard landscaping. I agree, they were extremely easy to install and looked great however the plastic stake that secures them into the ground on about half of my lights broke within the first year. The electrical connections ended up needing constant attention as well. The top caps do fly off during those windy fall days. I will say this, they haven't corroded and still look great, I just wish that the company would have just put a bit more effort into the stake that holds them into the ground and the electrical connector. I am not sure if there are any other lights out there to replace these, but I am looking for a new set and would not buy these again.

I have had terrible luck with my entire Malibu system. These lights are made mostly of plastic, break easily, and are a general pain.

The tops are not secure and constantly blow off in the wind. The poles that go into the ground are flimsy and easily knocked over. Replacement bulbs are expensive.

It looks great when you install it but it won't last long. It would break after 6 months.

Malibu yard light system,

I have had the Malibu landscape ligting system for over 5 years and have had no trouble with it. It gets rained on, snowed on, tree/ground debris dumped on and keeps on working. I have a 600 watt timer transformer operating a front yard zone and back yard zone of lights. Most fixtures are the three tier, 7 watt type with a few 50 watt, flood light types aimed at trees. They go on and off each night reliably. I have added and removed and relocated fixtures with no trouble. They are mostly plastic but have held up remarkably well. They shine light better than the solar lights althought they do require wire and electric.
