I bought this unit thinking it would keep me from having to reset the timer every time the power goes out, or change the timer due to seasonal changes in sunsets... I needed 100 watts, no more, no less for the application. But with the settings tweaked to the extreme, the units still comes on at 4:00 in the afternoon with the sun still shining. On a southern wall, with some shade but not too much. Even overcast skies tripped the dang thing. Malibu's suggestion is to move the unit to a lighter area. Can't do that without relocating the receptical it plugs into, right?

Can't return the thing, either, since the receipt got misplaced, and the box thrown away(purely my fault). So I'm stuck. Buyer beware, I predict that many of these units will be returned for those "inconvenient" mechanical timer units.

this is a well made solid unit. as other reviewers describe , no matter what adjustment you make the lights will turn on too soon, when it is not even dark yet. ENERGY WASTER!
I had to add this Coleman Cable Outdoor Digital Timer #4600 and set the transformer to manual to get it to work properly

I returned the first power pack that I received. I was unable to set the sensitivity to light; the pressure switch would not work. It was very difficult to set the amount of time that the power would remain on; the timer pressure switch was almost impossible to activate. The replacement power pack allows me to at least use the pressure switches, but I am unable to control light sensitivity.

We bought this product for the same reason as everyone else -- it looked simple, easy to install, and sturdy. We were delighted with how easy it was to set the lights. No more fussing with timers! Unfortunately, it was too good to be true. We're taking it back today (the second day) due to the fact that the lights come on all the time, regardless of how bright it is outside. It's summer, with full sun blazing down on us, but the lights come on when a cloud passes over. We adjusted the sensitivity several times but nothing worked. It was disappointing.

This product is a really not what it should be based on the description. When set for dusk to dawn the sensor does not work correctly reguardless of the setting you put it on. Trouble with it going off when it should and trouble with it coming on even in pitch black dark.

I purchase it to replace an older dial timer however, unit is a complete customer RIPOFF and should be taken off the shelf. I was unable to get it to work as it was supposed to. The directions didn't matter as it either remained on or off 24/7. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing.

I will be returning it to the store, lodge a complaint and maybe get my money back.

I advise you to leave it on the shelf.

I have owned several different Malibu power packs, all with mechanical timers, and guess I should have stayed with that good old proven technology. Last summer, after moving to a new house, I decided to try two of these new units with photo controls, and what a headache it has been. Neither unit functions properly and Malibu does not seem to care. I have e-mailed them, and received no support or care from them regarding the poor design of this particular product. I wish I had done this review prior to purchasing, because the history below is a true and accurate representation of this product. Really unsatisfactory product...don't waste your money!!!

I have had Malibu low voltage lighting for years and always used the mechanical transformer. My old transformer died so I bought this newer electronic unit, thinking it might be state of the art (I mean it has a built-in photo electric cell and everything). Was very easy to set up but as all the other reviews state, it will NOT control your lighting. The photocell is a joke! Regardless of the setting, it still will not turn your lights on at dusk and off at dawn. They stay on all the time. The other settings don't work either. So I returned the unit thinking I just had a defective unit and got another one. SAME THING! Malibu really screwed up when they made this product. It is a piece of junk. Don't waste your money. I am now going back to buy the old mechanical transformer with the timer.

This device is awful. One wonders if Malibu actually tested it before putting it on the marker. As others noted, it will turn your lights on during the day -- either when the sun is going down, or when clouds pass over.

Worse still, it often does not come on at night -- ambient light of the kind that's normal in any city or suburb is enough to shut it off.

It has settings to control the sensitivity of the photocell, but these settings do not help and will only make one or the other problems described above. No way that I've found in a month of trying to get it to simply stay on from dusk to dawn.

Save your money and buy a timer instead!

Same as the other reviews. I owned a Toro 36 watt for 15 years that had only the photo sensitivity feature. Worked perfectly the entire time. Bought the MLB100THB (100watt) to replace it. Exact same issues as all the other reviews. No matter what you do to it, the lights come on or stay on in the middle of the day. I have even moved it several times to try and get it to work properly to no avail. Don't waste you money.
