Problem with "on" clip,
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Intermatic T101R 120-Volt SPST 24 Hour Mechanical Time Switch with Outdoor Case (Tools & Home Improvement)
The first unit I bought the "on" clip wouldn't turn the power on. The off clip functioned fine.
Sent first unit back to Amazon as defective with no return problem. Received the replacement unit and had the same problem. Decided to try and fix the problem myself. The "on" clip needed to be about a 1/8 of an inch lower to push the lever on. So I modified the "on" clip and it now works fine. Manufacturer should check their tolerances.

The Macho Macho Man Timer,

This review is from: Intermatic T101R 120-Volt SPST 24 Hour Mechanical Time Switch with Outdoor Case (Tools & Home Improvement)
I needed a timer for the lights in horses' covered pens. The electricians first installed a smaller, electronic model with a plastic case. That same day, we had a massive rainstorm, and the next day, the display had some condensation inside, and the display was messed up (although the lights still turned on & off). The electricians replaced it with this model, and I'm pretty sure I could turn the hose on it and it'd still be okay.
I've had to use pliers to loosen/tighten the pegs that turn the lights on & off, but that's not a big deal. It's simple to set the time and relatively simple to set the on/off periods. And there's a lever that can be used to turn the lights on/off manually. I feel much more comfortable having something like this exposed to the weather than the original electronic one.

Great for a Pool Timer,
This review is from: Intermatic T101R 120-Volt SPST 24 Hour Mechanical Time Switch with Outdoor Case (Tools & Home Improvement)
I purchased this as a replacement for the timer I have on my pool filter. Easy to remove the punch outs and install. It is water tight, so no worries there. Saving a little green on "being green" by only running half the day and not 24/7.

Purchased this timer for our pool pump to replace a newly purchased GE timer that would work some of the time and some of the time it wouldn't. Spent many hours troubleshooting the GE timer and finally gave up and decided to buy the Intermatic T101R. Now I find that the T101R won't turn on unless the box is tapped. So now every morning somebody must go out and tap the box with their foot for the timer to turn on. Timer turns off all by itself but won't turn on. I like all other aspects about the timer. Just wish it would turn on like it is supposed to without somebody having to jog it back to life. I haven't had time to dig into the inner workings of the unit to see if something can be done about this problem. From reading another reveiw it seems there is a problem with the "ON" pawl.

Died after 11 months,

I bought this unit last year to replace a similar model that had lasted many years. I installed the new unit without difficulty and it worked flawlessly for 11 months running my pool sweeper for one hour a day. It then died for no apparent reason. The clock wheel stopped turning and even flipping the switch manually didn't work.
Based on my experience with three of these units (I also have one on the main pool pump that has lasted many years) I think the design is good, but people should be aware that there may be a few duds out there.

Works fine, until it doesn't!,

We had this Intermatic T101R installed professionally in 2009 for our pool pump to run 8-12 hours a day instead of 24. It worked fine until one day this spring 2011 the clock motor quit working. As we used it for 2 years, it's past warranty. Intermatic Inc told me to buy a clock motor and provided a part number, but the labor for an electrician to take apart the current unit and install that part will be more in labor costs than it would be to toss the original timer and buy a new one. I'll keep my fingers crossed the new one lasts more than 2 years.
On the plus side, customer service at Intermatic emailed me back within 5 minutes of my query. Cheers to them!

We have tried the regular timers, for our bubbler for our 1/2 acre pond. They would never last the summer season. This is working and much more substantial.
