Comprehensive Introduction to Intermediate Accounting,
By FNCrazy (Arlington, VA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Intermediate Accounting, Fifth Edition (Hardcover)
In addition to being a comprehensive introduction to intermediate accounting, the book also provides (1) supplemental study tools on the highered education website and (2) sample CPA and CMA exam questions. The study tools featured on the website include: check figures, excel templates for select problems, flashcards, sample exams, sample multiple choice quizzes and powerpoint slides.

Not the US version,

I ordered this book, believing it was the US version since the picture shows that and it also says it's the hardcover. However, i received my order today and it is the international version. Even though the contents are probably the same, I can't resell this in my school after the semester is over. It doesn't say anywhere in your site that this is an International Version, and it has the picture of the US version and it says it's a hardcover. Mine is not.

I'm using this book for my Intermediate Accounting 1 class. The book is an appropriate textbook. However, when doing the practice exercises, it is sometimes very difficult to answer the questions based only on this book. It was helpful for me to consult my previous financial accounting textbook to make sense out of the adjusting entries exercises.

I hate this book,
By N. Brewer (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Intermediate Accounting, Fifth Edition (Hardcover)
Amazon is great, of course. But as for this book... I can't say the same. First of all, this book is HUGE. I am using it for two separate classes at GSU and we're still not even covering half of it. After reading a chapter I don't feel like I've learned much, except that this book could put me to sleep. And most importantly, the questions at the end of the chapter have no solutions. How am I supposed to know if I'm on the right track?! Apparently this book is designed to be used with a website that your instructor has to set up, mine didn't and therefore the usefulness of this book decreased SIGNIFICANTLY.
You're buying more book than you need for less features than you would normally receive. If you are trying to decide if you should use this book for your course, please don't!

its a much better price than i would have gotten at the bookstore. the material is very wordy. they could get away with not having as much in it, but at the same time its an extremely through text that provides tons of great real life examples. good product at a good price

The homework manager access card is NOT included in this textbook. It's a separate and additional purchase. Most textbooks include access to their online features in new purchases, but this one does not. You will need to pay for a card separately, so if you can find ways to save on this purchase, do so.

Great Book for a Difficult Subject,
By
This review is from: Intermediate Accounting, Fifth Edition (Hardcover)
I attend Liberty University online and this is the book they use for Intermediate Accounting I & II. As others have noted, there is no homework ID included (my school doesn't use it anyway), but there are a lot of resources on the book's website at [...] such as narrated slides, practice quizzes, ipod content, etc. and it's all free (these are especially useful in studying for exams). Also, my school gives the solutions to the end of chapter exercises and you can probably find these online as well.
In my opinion, the wording the authors use can be confusing...they don't explain in plain everyday English, the language is very formal and sometimes I find myself reading a sentence or paragraph 3 or 4 times to understand what they're trying to say; however, the text accurately explains all subjects it covers in detail. Another aspect I like about this book is that it repeats concepts over and over throughout the text to really drive the point home and so you understand how the concepts work together as they build on the subject matter and I think that understanding concepts is the most important thing. Computerized accounting takes out a lot of the figuring steps when you are actually working in accounting, but if you understand the concepts you are golden. I've heard that Intermediate Accounting is the hardest of all accounting classes and so far it seems to be true. I am taking Intermediate Accounting II and Cost Accounting right now and Cost Accounting has been a breeze compared to Intermediate. I did get an A in Intermediate Accounting I (by 1 point!)and I didn't really work a lot of the exercise problems, but I did take my time and read and understood the text as best I could. I think if you read this text, then view the slides on the website and work a few of the problems in each chapter, you should do well in this difficult accounting course. Overall, I think this is a very good text for Intermediate Accounting.

A detailed text book,
By
This review is from: Intermediate Accounting, Fifth Edition (Hardcover)
It's a clear written textbook overall. It has chapter review problems with answer keys which is really helpful to test whether you have mastered the material or not. The book is written with long sentences, so I have to read each sentence 2,3 times before I could understand the meaning. I spent averagely 3 hours to read each chapter, but I did learn something from it. So I think this is a good book.

Good Price, Comprehensive Accounting,
This review is from: Intermediate Accounting, Fifth Edition (Hardcover)
Amazon has this book very economically priced compared to the college bookstore. If you need Spiceland 5 Amazon is the place to go. There are some pedagogic anomalies in it, however, such as the author's decision to put the chapter on balance sheets before the chapter on income statements. Normally income and equity statements are prerequisites for the balance sheet. Thus, material is sometimes presented outside of its logical order. The writing may also be a bit dull. My introductory textbook (Accounting by Warren, Reeve and Duchac) was much easier to follow. However, Spiceland gives you a more comprehensive coverage of the material.

Pretty much explained it in title, the book is a great price but thats because there is no homework manager card. That will cost you another 40 which still is not a bad price.
