a usefull book for math learners. very detailed and have lots of helpful examples. walk you thruough all the important matterials that you need to know as an intermediate algebra student.
it help you to evaluate your knowledge by the tests that you can find at the end of each chapter. happy that i bought it. :)

I got this book for my College Algebra class. I starts off really basic and gets harder gradually. However, it doesn't give very much explanation about the concepts. The cool thing about this book is that is has the answer key in the back so students can check their work to see if they get it.

This book is confusing. The sample examples are not helpful when completing the problems as they get harder. The disc for the computer is nothing more than a person working out the the examples in the beginning of each section so if you have a question on to do a specific problem this disc will not help you.

Revceived the book before expected delivery date. Better than discribed condition. The quality of the binding was a bit warn, but like new pages with no markings or page folds.

I've taken classes with Lial-authored books before and was more impressed with explanations and examples. They kind of dropped the ball with this book.

Granted, I was dealing with a type-A and somewhat befuddled and unorganized instructor which was a side-show in and of itself to deal with. However, this book has some seriously odd bumps in the road in it. Section 7.4 "Equations with Rational Expressions and Graphs" lacks adequate explanatory detail to complete some of the section quiz questions. Same could be said for numerous areas in Chapter 8, "Roots, Radicals, and Root Functions," as well as parts of Chapter 9, "Quadratic Equations, Inequalities and Functions." I found that, partly due to the instructor's nonsense and partly due to poor examples in these sections, I had to review these areas and reference other algebra books I own to feel comfortable before proceeding to College Algebra.

I purchased this book because it was being used for the class I needed to take in college. For people who have a natural talent for algebra, this book will be sufficient, however if you struggle with it as I do, then you will need more. This book explains the basic concepts-nothing more. The CD's aren't much help either. I ended up dropping the class for the time being because I couldn't keep up. The price was great though.
