I purchased this book in order to review Algebra II, which I hadn't thought about in 15 years. I wish I had had this text when I was in school: the material is clearly presented and explained and the examples are well chosen. The format is helpful too -- with various steps and margin notes printed in different colors alongside the problems. Definitely a great course book for an algebra class and very helpful if you are teaching yourself.

This text is very clear and provides plenty of step-by-step explanations, guided exercises, review work, and tests. I believe it is the best math book I have ever owned (I am back in school after many years and really need help with math). If you are in a college course make sure you do not need the Math Lab before ordering this book. This edition does not include the Math Lab and most classes require homework on Math Lab.

My son is using the 11th edition in his advanced math course. The student edition has the answers to the odd problems and his teacher states that the teacher edition of course has the answers to all problems. On occasion, my son is has a tutor and the tutor has the book and talks highly about the 11th edition (has been using it for years). The math itself is covered and also many real world examples. There are also tips and other information in the margins. There are mid chapter review pages, skills maintenance sections and study tips. I got the book so I can have a copy for myself for review and help my son as it has been too many years since college. I am very pleased with the content. The 4 stars is only because I have not looked at every single page as we move through it, and don't teach from it on a daily basis.

I had to use this for Math 105 and as much as I thought the Bittinger series sucked (compared to textbooks from different disciplines) - the upper level math classes textbooks suck more, lots more. At least this textbook has a series of videos on youtube which give you the answers to all of the chapter test problems so if you are having difficulty with a concept you can go to someplace and see a problem worked out step by step for you. In my College Algebra class, you missed a concept in class and you were toast ....

Compared to College Algebra by Gustafson and Hughs this is a good textbook that assumes that you haven't already learned the material in high school.
