4.0 out of 5 stars A few questions concerning the previous reviewer
Siyo culturev,
I have a few questions for you concerning your last review. Currently, I am working my way through the "introduction to Cherokee" as done by the author of this more advanced course. In your opinion, what is particularly lacking about this course? Your critique review seems kind of vague. I have not yet examined this course, but was planning to buy...

2.0 out of 5 stars Basic and simplistic
This is a scratch-the-surface course, which contains a lot of the same vocabulary and materials as the Beginning course just expanded. It is obvious that the writer is not a language instructor and the course was not put together in a clear graded manner. This is a scratch-the-surface course, which contains a lot of the same vocabulary and materials as the Beginning course just expanded. It is obvious that the writer is not a language instructor and the course was not put together in a clear graded manner. The writer also seems to enjoy filling the CDs with his own ten-cents of this and that (just like in the intro course), which is irrelevant to the learning of the language. But all said and done, beggars can't be choosers, this is the best "course" available that will take you a bit further into the language and you get more recorded speech to practice with. Just don't get your hopes too high!

Siyo culturev,
I have a few questions for you concerning your last review. Currently, I am working my way through the "introduction to Cherokee" as done by the author of this more advanced course. In your opinion, what is particularly lacking about this course? Your critique review seems kind of vague. I have not yet examined this course, but was planning to buy it soon, because I have almost completed the first one. So, when I read your review, I was somewhat disheartened.

Would it be possible that your dissatisfaction with the course has to do with a cultural differentiation between the way the Cherokees normally approach their language and the way that you are normally used to approaching other languages? Or do you genuinely think that this is a slop job of a course? If so, why?

Also, if this is indeed the case, then what alternative would you recommend? You mentioned in your personal description that you spent some time in a two-week immersion course. Was there a marked difference between how you work hot in that immersion course as opposed to the way the student is instructed in these particular courses? If so, what was that difference? I'm curious about these matters because the critique that you level against this course seems to be the common critique of most of the Cherokee materials.

I am wondering if there is a genuine linguistic need for a revision of Cherokee grammars. I have often thought about pursuing this particular course in my graduate studies. I have not studied as many languages as you. This is a third language that I am learning outside my own, my second is New Testament Greek, which is markedly different from Cherokee.

A second question I have for you: in your experience, is Cherokee akin to any of the Asian languages that you have encountered? If so, what I benefit by studying any of them? If so, which ones? Please respond thoughtfully and as soon as possible. Wadoh.
