Old-Fashioned "Floorwork" with a Yoga Touch, December 24, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Intermediate Yoga [VHS] (VHS Tape)
More of a traditional exercise "floorwork" class, complete with sit-ups and some push-ups, than a yoga class. Though some yoga poses are included -- cow, sidestretch, modified triangle, downward and upward dog -- they are sped through, and serve as just so many brief stretches, along with other stretches one commonly finds in traditional "floorwork" gym classes. There is no focus on holding yoga positions or on getting the body positioned and working just right in them. I'm returning to an Iyengar-style yoga practice after a four-year absence, and I've been been far more taken with my Rodney Yee videos-- YOGA FOR STRENGTH and YOGA FOR ENERGY.

Where's the yoga?, April 4, 2000

The video has a lot of stretching exercises, but by the time I turned it off in frustration Foster had yet to get to any real yoga poses. Not good instruction on breathing, spine lengthening, etc.

Good thing I borrowed before buying..., July 12, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Intermediate Yoga [VHS] (VHS Tape)
If I'd wanted a Pilates tape, I'd have bought one. This tape is almost nothing but Pilates-type matwork. By the time she got to some yoga poses well over 30 minutes into it, I was feeling as if I'd been bamboozled and hornswoggled by the "Yoga" portion of the title, causing me to turn it off in irritation and protest before it was completely finished. I guess if you want a Pilates video, this one isn't bad. Just try to borrow it from the library first before you make that purchase leap.
