2.0 out of 5 stars really disappointing, February 8, 2006

This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
I am one of the biggest Andrew Gold fans there is, I love all his album from the 1970's, they were so melodic. His 80's work was also excellent with Wax.
This album is practically devoid of all the melodic ballads that he is so well known for. I was stunned as the tuneless 'ain't it just' came on. And 'big fat daddy' is even worse. An awful start to the album.
The only songs I like were 'hannah'. The one and only exceptional ballad on the album, which reminds of his earlier style. This would have been one ballad amongst many, but here it is really a stand alone. 'Don't talk about forever' is also nice enough. The other tracks of note are 'the night show'. A good melody shines through this one. Also the cover 'I think I love you' is quite catchy. And 'A little mercy' is an ok sounding ballad.
But the rest is tuneless space filling pap.
Oh, and I HATE 'Drama queen' it is cringe worthy and just plain awful.

5.0 out of 5 stars " Andrew Gold Is Fab", February 3, 2006
By
perkmp (Ft Wayne, IN.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
That was the title given to Andrew Gold by Rolling Stone magazine's review of his first album in 1975. Well, after over 30 years of making solo music, and working with Graham Gouldman (ex-10cc) in WaxUK, Andrew Gold is still making "fabulous" music. His latest CD, Intermission; is almost entirely a one man band effort. It shows what kind of chops he has for writing and playing music that you end up remembering long after you listen to it. Mostly known for song's from his four solo releases of 1975 to 1979,I think that this release from 2002,is the best example of what new listeners of AG's music will appreciate. 14 songs ranging from straight ahead rock n'roll(sure got quiet in here, good luck),heartfelt melody's (don't talk about forever, it happened to me, the night show),to hauntingly beautiful masterpieces (hannah, crawl into the light, a little mercy). He even manages to throw in a musical curve or two, with tunes like "drama queen","big fat daddy", and "I think I love you". All in all, this CD is what Andrew Gold's music is about for fans who've been following his career. Not many artist's that have been making music this long, are this underappreciated; and yet he still makes music today as good as anything he's ever done. Give this CD a good listen, and you'll understand why Andrew Gold is still "Fab", after all of this time!

4.0 out of 5 stars Still Good as Gold (4 1/2 Stars), September 21, 2006
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
My favorite Andrew Gold album remains "All this and Heaven Too" ("Still You Linger On" gets me everytime). From start to finish, full of melody and solid lyrics with tasty production innovation to keep the interest throughout. But I must say that this later release, "Intermission" has been a very pleasant surprise. This title is more simple and honest in the production category, in a good way. It allows the quality of the songs to shine through. The emphasis is more on delivering a solid song than wrapping it in a radio friendly package and I happen to favor that approach. The variety of styles and humor are welcome, keeping the interest high for all 14 tracks. I am enjoying "Intermission" more with each subsequent listen.

Andrew's vocals are better than ever and his passion has never waned. My favorite track so far is "Crawl into the Light" (although there are certainly other standouts). It contains that extra spiritual element that really grips the heart and makes you think (another such song is "I'm Ready to Go Home" nicely covered by Asia on the Aura album or on Andrew's "Since 1951" if you can find a copy). If this is a sign of things to come for Andrew, I'm in. I think all true Gold fans should be happy with this offering and even new comers will find much to like here if they know how to appreciate a very talented singer-songwriter.
