Short and sweet, February 10, 2000
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
This is a short ep, but it has some fantastic music on it which makes it well worth the money.
The Residents' music from this era is buzzy and bleepy, with fuzzy twangy guitar lines, processed, hollow vocals, strong rhythms...and of course, the signature odd chords and harmonies, the just-out-of-sync rhythms.
Perhaps my favorite song is "Would We Be Alive", which has some of the most haunting lyrics of anything they've done.
My suggestion is that if you like Mark of the Mole, or other albums from this era, this is an excellent album to pick up.
If you haven't, and you're curious about the Residents, Mark of the Mole is a great album to try. It's a little dense and demanding, but well worth a careful listen (a soundtrack for an alternate-reality bizarre subterranean Grapes of Wrath). If it clicks with you, then you'll love Intermission. It has many similar themes and sounds as Mark of the Mole, but the music is a little lighter, a little more direct.

The perfect Residents EP, January 28, 2006
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
Many bands are known for releasing solid 3-6 track EPs at some point in their careers. This one has to be the Residents' pinnacle. It entrances you from the 1st track to the 5th, with a linear feel throughout, and downright creepy & eerie at times. Truly the stuff of a Mole's nightmare.

FANTISTIQUES PETITS TRAVAUX!, March 7, 2003
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
Les intermissions du Mole Show du début des années 80, version studio. Fascinant. Une tension dans le minimalisme narratif. Les arrangement vocaux de Lorie Ammat laissent déjà présager les futurs travaux des Residents de «God in Three Persons» et «Freak Show». Sombre et délicieux. Pochette hallucinante.
