5.0 out of 5 stars Short and sweet
This is a short ep, but it has some fantastic music on it which makes it well worth the money.

The Residents' music from this era is buzzy and bleepy, with fuzzy twangy guitar lines, processed, hollow vocals, strong rhythms...and of course, the signature odd chords and harmonies, the just-out-of-sync rhythms.

Perhaps my favorite song is "Would We Be...

'would we be alive' and 'shorty's lament' are decent songs, the others are ok. Not much to write home about really. Trivia: Would we be alive was covered by the punk band Nomeansno.

The Residents' music from this era is buzzy and bleepy, with fuzzy twangy guitar lines, processed, hollow vocals, strong rhythms...and of course, the signature odd chords and harmonies, the just-out-of-sync rhythms.

Perhaps my favorite song is "Would We Be Alive", which has some of the most haunting lyrics of anything they've done.

My suggestion is that if you like Mark of the Mole, or other albums from this era, this is an excellent album to pick up.

If you haven't, and you're curious about the Residents, Mark of the Mole is a great album to try. It's a little dense and demanding, but well worth a careful listen (a soundtrack for an alternate-reality bizarre subterranean Grapes of Wrath). If it clicks with you, then you'll love Intermission. It has many similar themes and sounds as Mark of the Mole, but the music is a little lighter, a little more direct.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect Residents EP, January 28, 2006
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
Many bands are known for releasing solid 3-6 track EPs at some point in their careers. This one has to be the Residents' pinnacle. It entrances you from the 1st track to the 5th, with a linear feel throughout, and downright creepy & eerie at times. Truly the stuff of a Mole's nightmare.

4.0 out of 5 stars FANTISTIQUES PETITS TRAVAUX!, March 7, 2003
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
Les intermissions du Mole Show du début des années 80, version studio. Fascinant. Une tension dans le minimalisme narratif. Les arrangement vocaux de Lorie Ammat laissent déjà présager les futurs travaux des Residents de «God in Three Persons» et «Freak Show». Sombre et délicieux. Pochette hallucinante.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great, but...., November 9, 2001
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
I bought this on a whim back in the 80's, not knowing what to expect. I found the minimalist, hypnotic music very much to my liking. Shortie's Lament, Moles Are Coming, and Would We Be Alive becoming standard fare in my music collection. Then, last year I bought Three In One. It had all the stuff I thought so well of in Intermission. BUT it also had that annoying voice over on EVERY song. It was like a long-winded monologue with a musical background. Now I'm scared to buy another Residents CD for fear it will be more like Three In One than Intermission. Intermission is worth the money, but I will be wary of anything else by these guys.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Gem in the Residents' Crown, April 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
This is a forgotten treasure from the Residents. It's the prerecorded intermission music from the Mole Show and it is far from background music. Each of the tracks is based on a different ryhthm and each comments on the mole story. A truly great release from the world's greatest band.

2.0 out of 5 stars For (Residents) collectors only, November 11, 1999
This review is from: Intermission (Audio CD)
This is a 5 song EP (approximately 25 minutes)for almost $10. That tells you right there, BEWARE! If you own (or care to own) much of their music, you already have these cuts. If you don't, it is a waste. Shorty's Lament& Would We Be Alive? are worth the price, but only if you don't already own them. The Residents tend to squeeze every dollar out of their fan base. But who isn't nowadays.
