Book Description

Three months after a fire ripped through Cove Creek Assisted Living Facility, repairs are complete, but even as Reverend G and her cat, Gabriel move back into their apartment, the retired pastor realizes life just isn’t the same. She continues to minister to her fellow residents — the widower who reads the same book over and over and the woman who waits by the front door for the family who never arrives. Even Gabriel is back at work, making his rounds and forecasting death. But while Reverend G is able to find the words to conduct a funeral service, anticipates the birth of her first grandchild and plans her future with her beloved, Chris, she battles her worsening Alzheimer’s symptoms — memory loss, paranoia, anger and fear. Now, her worst nightmare seems to be coming true. God hasn’t spoken to her in weeks. Has Reverend G lost her connection with God?

5.0 out of 5 stars A Heartfelt story of love and compassion April 29, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Intermission for Reverend G continues where The Unraveling of Reverend G left off. It truly brings the reader into the heart and mind of a person diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I love how Reverend G gives a name to Alzheimer's and talks to it telling it how much she dislikes it. Working in a retirement community for several years I was able to identify with many of the characters in this story. The wedding at the end was simply beautiful. I would certainly recommend the Reverend G books to anyone who wants to understand their loved one better who suffers with Alzheimer's.

5.0 out of 5 stars A story full of life! April 23, 2014
Some of our best examples of how to live can be found between the pages of a book. And so it is with Reverend G. With a failing memory and a longing to hear her Father’s voice, Reverend G faces the onslaught of Alzheimer’s with grace and determination to not let this disease steal the enjoyment she can still have in life.

Whatever this disease is taking from her, she is still the Reverend and you see that in everything she does and says. In the middle of her own questions, doubts and fears, Reverend G still loves and serves all those around her. A shining example of facing the later years of life with courage.

RJ Thesman has done a fantastic job in Intermission for Reverend G of painting a picture of hope and courage for anyone looking toward the later years of one’s own life or that of a loved one. Well worth the time to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Gripping Story with Insight and Compassion April 17, 2014
Intermission for Reverend G continues the story of a woman pastor with the diagnosis of Alzheimer's. The characters of the first book in the Cove Creek series, The Unraveling of Reverend G, become stronger as their lives continue to intertwine in the assisted living facility. Reverend G finds purpose in reaching out to them, all the while wondering if she will remember their individual personalities. She fears forgetting those closest to her--her dear son, his wife who is expecting her first grandchild, and her boyfriend. Most of all, she fears losing her connection with God, whom she has faithfully loved and served all her life.

This story gives insight into the impact of the Alzheimer's disease process. RJ Thesman writes from personal experience of dealing with a family member with the disease.

I was drawn into the story and got to love the characters. I felt the tension of Rev G's fears and the reality in which she lives, while also seeing her continued compassion for those around her.

Intermission for Reverend G is a gripping story with insight, compassion and faith.

I just finished Intermission for Reverend G by RJ Thesman last week and was so glad to again spend time with the characters. While reading the book and since I have been much more aware of praying for my mother-in-law as she lives with memory issues. An enjoyable book despite the serious subject, just as the characters enjoy life and live with God during serious times as well as joyful times. Also, the book gives much to think about as I age and those around me age. Thank You, Rebecca. I am eagerly awaiting the next book.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like Christian fiction June 30, 2014
By Brenda
If you like Christian fiction, you will enjoy “Intermission for Reverend G.” But I’m going to take this one step further and say, if you have a loved one – or anyone you know that suffers from Alzheimer’s or Dementia, I say grab up both of Thesman’s books and read them. My MIL suffered from dementia and I recognized so many of Rev G’s symptoms as the same as what we lived through. I wish I could have had these light hearted, - but realistic books to read as we went through so much with her. You will learn to love the characters of this book as you become more aware of the struggles all have with this disease. I highly recommend these books.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book in the series! June 25, 2014

Intermission For Reverend G

Book 2 in this series by author RJ Thesman is just as captivating as Book 1 (“The Unraveling of Reverend G”). Thesman has an ability to make the story flow so easily that it encourages you to stay put in your reading chair without interruption. It is pure reading pleasure, despite the difficult topic.

In “Intermission for Reverend G,” the retired minister with Alzheimers slowly progresses into more confusion, yet she continues to cling to her God and her love for her family and precious friends. She struggles—yet the Lord continues to use her to help others.

The author captures the thoughts of Reverend G with believability and sensitivity. The story, portrayed through the eyes of a woman with dementia, stirs one’s understanding of the thought processes as well as compassion for the pain of losing one’s memory. It is a journey filled with hope, joy and sadness, captured beautifully in “Intermission for Reverend G.” I look forward to Book 3.
