About the Author

Lawrence W. Newman has been a Partner in the New York office of Baker & McKenzie since 1971, when, together with the late Professor Henry deVries, he founded the litigation department in that office. Mr. Newman has been the principal author, for over 20 years, of a regular column in the New York Law Journal, entitled "International Litigation." He is the author/editor of 4 works on international litigation/arbitration. Grant Hanessian, is a Partner in the New York office of Baker & McKenzie. Mr. Hanessian has handled numerous arbitrations conducted under the rules of the American Arbitration Association, the International Chamber of Commerce, the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal, and the United Nations Compensation Commission, which is resolving claims against Iraq arising out of the Gulf War, and other fora.
